Activision Outlines Their New Plans (True Crime canned, new CoD service)

I think Activision has hit a new time low today while still maybe recognizing that they should improve things but at the same time looking like a completely soulless corporation.  Announced during their financial report, Activision has decided to cease development on the 2011 version of Guitar Hero along with revealing that they don’t plan to release a new iteration in the Tony Hawk Skateboarding franchise. In addition to Guitar Hero getting the axed, DJ Hero has also been given the pink slip and so have the developers behind it.

The United Kingdom may be a beautiful land that has an amazing culture, but it isn’t cheap to live or work there, a sentiment that Activision is making clear in their latest bold proclamation.  The latest thing to get Activision and Bobby Kotick up in a tizzy is how the British government has decided to forgo a series of tax incentives that were planned for British based video game developers.

Yesterday a bevy of quotes from a recent interview Edge Magazine conducted with Activision’s Bobby Kotick made their way online.  Unsurprisingly, Kotick’s comments which ranged from Activision trumping EA in the studio identity department to things like the infamous Infinity Ward situation once again proved how much of a pompous ass he can be.  I may be throwing myself under the bus by saying that, but it’s the truth.

I don’t know where to begin with Bobby Kotick, the man who is the evil emperor of Activision.  Obviously I doubt Bobby is an evil chap when you talk to him about things outside of gaming. But whenever he openly discusses the video game industry nothing but a mass of rage inducing comments come out that in a way stupefy the video game community.

This is the love/hate relationship between myself and plenty of other people in the world of gaming. Every week I will pick someone who gets my Fist-bump for doing a good deed, someone who gets my undesirable Bitch-Slap for doing something wrong (or just something that pisses me off), and I'll share my experience/opinion along the way.

These are tough days for developers and publishers. If a game flops or underperforms there aren’t any second chances and publishers have no problems letting huge chunks of staff go or getting rid of development studios.

If there was any doubt that Activision has officially turned into the evil empire then I think the latest comments from CEO Bobby Kotick will surely cement your opinion on the company being entirely focused on making tons of money while they shaft consumers. 

During the Activision Conference Call when an analyst from Piper Jaffray brought up the issue of pricing Bobby Kotick replied that if given the chance he would actually raise prices for their products. For this to fully sink in and I’ll post the exact excerpt from the call:
