Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Modern Warfare 3 DLC Preview [GDC 2012]

As I mentioned in last week’s TL;DR there’s still a lot of information coming out of GDC, slowly but surely, due to the magic of embargo dates. Today’s release of information means that we can talk about the time we spent last week with the Modern Warfare 3 DLC plans, and our hands-on impressions. For those that aren’t already aware, Activision is upping their commitment from 20 pieces of content to 24 pieces, which for the Elite subscribers is coming at no additional cost.

Why Does This Exist? DLC Pre-ordering.

While browsing the interwebs earlier this week I came across an ad for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The ad was promoting the upcoming release of the MW3’s first set of downloadable content, hardly anything new. What graces the top corner of this ad was something I have never seen before... something I still don’t understand. “Pre-order Now!”

Have Multiplayer Games Lost Their Focus?

Since the dawn of this console generation multiplayer gaming has become a huge, if not THE major focus for most games and a key feature for gamers.  Being able to play with some buddies online wasn’t one of the many features that spawned this generation thanks to newfound technology as online gaming had a nice following on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox thanks to games like SOCOM and Halo.

Call of Duty: Will the Fans Give Up?

Today's topic deals with something that even I found pretty shocking; checking up on the Metacritic.com user score for Modern Warfare 3 reveals a (as of today) a user score of 3.2. The reason I find this shocking is that among Call of Duty fans, I was under the impression that the games could do no wrong. Compared to the incredibly favourable score from reviewers, it makes wonder where the rift is.

Exclusive Interview With Actor Craig Fairbrass (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare)

By now most of you have already finished the story mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or at least are still underway in the mode in between bouts of multiplayer based action.  Say what you will about how the Modern Warfare series has evolved over the last few years, but one thing that has remained constant, in a good way, is that the acting and performances in the game have remained high quality.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 [Review]

Overall Feeling:

The campaign mode provides an epic conclusion to the Modern Warfare 3, wrapping up the tangled storylines of Captain Price and McTavish in a crazy large-scale Hollywood-esque thrill ride. However, a large number of 'on rails' style gunner-style sequences and a rather uninspired take on the multiplayer leave a little something to be desired... At the end of the day, there's not much to complain about, considering everything was well established with the first two games, but it would have been nice to have a little further departure and a couple of more risks taken to truly advance the franchise.

The Pros:

+Massive-scale story mode, and dramatic conclusion to the MW franchise.

+Addition of the Survival Mode is an intelligent one.

+Class-based system helps to shake up the game's competitve multiplayer a bit.

The Cons:

-Everything feels like it leans a little too hard on the previous title.

-Campaign mode features a lot of 'on rails' moments that can detract from the challenge of the story-mode.

ShogunGamer.com Rating :
8

To be completely honest, Modern Warfare 3 was a title I'd almost entirely wrote off. With the drama surrounding the majority of the Infinity Ward team walking away after Modern Warfare 2, I didn't think it was going to be a proper "Modern Warfare" title now with the bulk of the creative team having walked away from the franchise.

Battlefield 3 vs. Modern Warfare 3 Is On [E3 2011]

The day has come for all first person shooter fans to witness the raise of a competitor for Activision’s Call of Duty franchise.

Kicking off E3 was gameplay from the forthcoming Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 3. Based in New York we watch a Navy Seal team invade a submarine. Almost mimicking their strategy from last year, CoD showcased new features in their single-player campaign with scuba diving. The only thing missing from this was Scuba Steve, am I right? Stylistically, MW3 was pretty, using dark tones to portray the onslaught in the heart of Americana.

Activision Formally Reveals Call of Duty: Elite (You Don't Need To Pay For Everything)

Late last night we got early word on Call of Duty: Elite, the new subscription based service that would be heavily featured in all COD games from here on out.  Activision may not be totally off their rocker just yet since playing the multiplayer modes in COD will remain free, the prospect of paying a monthly fee to receive new map packs or other features really hasn’t gone over well with gamers.

Early Details On Activision's Subscription Based Call of Duty Service

The day that gamers have been dreading has finally come to become a painstaking reality.  After learning that Activision was looking into an extensive online service for the Call of Duty franchise, specifically the initiative being headed by the COD Beachhead team, gamers wondered what sort of madness would be bestowed upon Call of Duty’s cherished multiplayer modes.  Well on the heels of E3, Activision has revealed a few early details on their new online initiative and I think the news may cause a revolt of sorts amongst the gaming masses.

A Somewhat Vague Teaser Site Surfaces For What Could Be Modern Warfare 3

We have a situation on our hands that could be yet another case of a publisher playing coy despite the obvious signals, or we have what could be the greatest viral marketing troll ever done by a major company.  As has been the case for the last few years, this year we’re going to see the release of several high profile modern warfare action games, the biggest of which is the as yet unannounced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and the recently announced Battlefield 3.  EA has already gotten the marketing blitz for BF3 in motion with the release of the
