Dante's Inferno

The Team Behind Dead Space Appears To Be Prepping A New IP

EA’s go-to studio for action games could be prepping a huge new project if a recent job posting is any indication.  After releasing the mega hit that is Dead Space 2, Visceral Games looks to be gearing up for a new IP, that could very well become the series the Redwood Shores branch of the studio is known for.  Job Postings usually give us small indications of what a studio is prepping (like the recent one Media Molecule posted) but EA has gone and posted a job ad for an Executive Producer p

Exclusive interview with actor Graham McTavish, the voice behind Dante in Dante's Inferno

So far the reaction to Dante’s Inferno from both gamers and critics seems to be the very definition of polarized. Some love how the game adapted the classic poem by Dante Alighieri while others really didn’t dig the thematic choices it made along with the gameplay which is like a scaled back version of God of War.

Visceral Games Commits to Quality over Quantity

Having just released the not so epic Dante’s Inferno, some out there may be wondering what Visceral Games will do next.

[Review] Dante's Inferno

Overall Feeling:

Dante’s Inferno isn’t a terrible game nor is it another shameless clone of God of War. It’s just an odd mish-mash of thematic elements which is bookend by combat that fails to get the blood pumping. The team at Visceral Games should be applauded for taking on a project like this but Dante’s Inferno is far from being the next big action game let alone a hit on the same level as Dead Space.

The Pros:

The art design is amazing and it really sets the tone that Hell is a place you don’t want to visit. For a game that is a dramatic mish-mash the voice acting is its one saving grace as the performances from the cast are just terrific. The combat is easy to get into and some may like the good and evil paths players can take.

The Cons:

Combat is a bit uninspiring and there aren’t a whole lot of cool scenarios. The puzzles and platforming sections are rather lame. Visuals are a bit inconsistent at times. The story and the game as a whole never really finds the right tone.

From the moment it debut at the Spike Video Game Awards two years ago there has always been some form of controversy surrounding EA’s adaptation of the classic poem Dante’s inferno.  The first sticking point about the game many had was that it’s based on an amazing piece of literature that was seemingly being diluted into a standard hack and slash action game. Turning a poem of Dante’s Inferno caliber into a game seemed like one of those sacred things that simply shouldn’t be done.

Dante's Inferno St Luca DLC adds Co-Op and User Created Trials

[Updated] Playscope has now uploaded the trailer officially, so I swapped out the video for one of higher quality.

Dante's Inferno shows its holiday spirit

Whoever is in charge of marketing Dante’s Inferno should really get a bonus.  While the game may be a slightly derivative God of War clone that at times has you saying “WTF” for all the wrong reasons at least the marketing for the game has been highly original. First it was the PAX debacle, the RickRoll box, Mass We Pray, and now we see that Dante does indeed have some holiday spirit.

Army of Two: The 40th Day PSP trailer (with more EA synergy)

Launching alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Army of Two: The 40th Day is the little brother version on the PSP. While most of us are used to PSP ports of HD console games that are just watered down experiences that isn’t the case with Army of Two on the PSP.

Instead of following dude bros for life Salem & Rios from the usual 3rd person perspective the game instead has an isometric overhead view and has gameplay reminiscent of classic NES games.

PS3 set to get the Divine Edition of Dante's Inferno (plus a Dead Space bonus)

If you’re blown away by the Dante’s Inferno demo that’s being released on the PlayStation Network today then perhaps you may be interested in the just announced Dante’s Inferno “Divine Edition” exclusively for the PS3.

A small glimpse at the story of Dante's Inferno

We’ve seen the violent side of Dante’s Inferno but now we have a look at the dramatic and somewhat subtle side, well at least for 55 seconds, of the upcoming action game.

The latest trailer for the game shows what exactly sends Dante on his trip to hell as his love Beatrice is killed by one of those pesky medieval hoodlums. And to make matters worse Dante sees his love taken from him once again and this time it’s by Lucifer.

Dante's Inferno is taking the PSN to hell next week

Next week PS3 owners will get an “exclusive” and “early” chance to play EA’s God of War clone Dante’s Inferno as a demo will be hitting the PSN on December 10.  The demo won’t be available for Xbox 360 owners until December 24 which will surely raise some flame war arguments amongst those who love to debate about which console and online service is better.
