Mortal Kombat Vita Game Details Finally Emerge

We may have been teased for almost a year, but earlier this week WB Interactive and NetherRealm Studios finally unveiled Mortal Kombat for the PlayStation Vita.  While it was nice to get an official confirmation that MK was bound for Sony’s new portable gaming device, the lack of game details and any kind of media somewhat made the announcement a null point.  We all know the basics of MK and what to expect from the series but not having answers to questions such as how NetherRealm was going to take advantage of the Vita did take away from the initial luster of the reveal.

The 2nd Tease Of Ed Boon/NetherRealm Studios Is Finally Revealed

I have a small update for everyone out there that plays video game bingo. Seeing as how we often have half a dozen possibly major rumors or blatant teases concerning major studios I’m sure a few folks out there partake in video game bingo with their pals or simply create drinking games to pass the time. Anyway I digress so let me get to my topic: Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has revealed the second tease concerning NetherRealm Studios and it’s kind of what we expected.

NetherRealm Studios Is Taking A Break From Mortal Kombat (Don't Panic)

Now that the dust has settled on the initial hoopla and disgust that accompanies the Spike Video Game Awards, some interesting tidbits have surfaced that were revealed during the event. We all know the basic stuff, a dozen or so games were revealed via trailer form most of which honestly looked good. But something very interesting was teased or at least confirmed during the event that relates to everyone’s favorite blood filled fighting franchise: Mortal Kombat.

NetherRealm Studios (Mortal Kombat) Teasing Surprise Announcement

I may be setting myself for major disappointment, but Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has teased of a surprise announcement relating to NetherRealm Studios, the wonderful place that has been making the MK games for the last twenty years.  Boon took to Twitter to tease of an “unexpected surprise” coming from NetherRealm Studios shortly.  Most MK fans know Boon can be a bit of a joker at times so what exactly could this “surprise” announcement be?

Who could this new Mortal Kombat mystery fighter be?

So far what we’ve seen of the upcoming Mortal Kombat game points to a very old-school yet modern retelling of the classic formula that made the old 2D games so much fun.  Besides being able to uppercut someone or rip their spine out, one thing that made the old MK games so much fun were the characters.  Developer NetherRealm Studios (they’ll forever be known as Midway Chicago in my heart) have pretty much given fans the characters that are required to make an awesome MK game like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage, Liu Kang and Princess Katana.

New Mortal Kombat game announced by Warner Brothers [UPDATED WITH TRAILER]

With the Mortal Kombat hype high after the release of the MK film pitch video, Warner Brothers Interactive has announced the latest Mortal Kombat game.  Simply titled Mortal Kombat, the game promises to take gamers back the glory days of the franchise as the game will feature a “mature presentation.”  Best of all the new MK game will be a 2D fighter similar to Street Fighter IV and the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Mortal Kombat 9 seeks to become the standard for online play in fighting games

Despite the recent financial troubles of Midway which resulted in the acquisition of Midway Chicago and the Mortal Kombat property by Warner Brothers Interactive, the production on the latest MK game is still going ahead full steam.
