Overall Feeling:
Mindjack immediately falls into the category of games I would suggest you play only if you want to see how a video game should not be developed and released. Aside from a premise that is cool on paper, Mindjack is filled with gameplay and production values that are all executed poorly which leaves the gamer with nothing more than a game that would’ve been looked at as ok to sub-average if it was released during the early days of the PS2 generation.
The Pros:
Swapping between characters via the mindjack ability is interesting. If you want easy Trophies or Achievements then go rent the game.
The Cons:
There’s no saving grace at all with the gameplay as the gunplay is dull, the controls are clunky and the level design feels like it was designed by a High-School student. I was so dis-interested by the story that I couldn’t even follow it, and this is coming from a guy who loves good C-level/B-level stories. Visually, Mindjack wouldn’t even be that impressive if it was a launch game for the Xbox 360 or the PS3.
In case you didn’t know, I’m really passionate about video games. Unlike other people who fall under the “blogger” or “games journalist” category, I’m not some hipster who only plays a few games and then goes on almost pointless pontificating sessions with the main draw of getting some hits so I can earn some cash for some new skinny jeans or a vintage album. I like to play a lot of games and at times I’ll play a game I’m not too fond or familiar with just to see what it does and what sort of vision its designers had when making the game, that’s how much I dig games.
