Spartacus Legends Goes The Free-To-Play Route On PSN/XBL

As a sign of the industry once again shifting in an unexpected way, Ubisoft has announced that their upcoming action brawler Spartacus Legends will be a free-to-play title.  The forthcoming tie-in game for the hit Starz series Spartacus was announced back in July and now it’ll be completely free-to-play on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. So thanks to Ubisoft literally anyone can become a gladiator and feel the rush that’s to be had from decapitating an enemy.

The Hit TV Show Spartacus Enters The Video Game Arena With Spartacus Legends

This happens rarely, but I find myself incredibly excited for a video game based on a TV show despite having the odds stacked against it actually being good.  With the new trend being to develop games based on popular cable shows, Ubisoft and Starz Entertainment have announced Spartacus Legends, a new PSN/XBLA game based on the hit series Spartacus.

Girl Fight Hands-On [GDC 2012]

Sometimes it’s hard for gamers to take a game seriously if it looks a certain way or is being handled by a particular developer. It’s never proper to judge a book by its cover instead of getting some hands-on time with it, but sometimes a mere image or description of a game can say it all which will lead to gamers casting it aside like a bad piece of food.

Girl Fight Screens Boggle The Mind In Various Ways

Sometimes as a writer I find myself in a predicament of sorts.  Now I won’t go overboard and say that I find myself struggling deeply with my journalistic integrity or how to tackle a hard hitting piece of news that could forever change something. As nice as it would be to be an Edward R. Murrow type figure I know that I’m not such a thing nor will I likely ever be.

Kung Fu Factory (Supremacy MMA Devs) Reveal Girl Fight

I don’t know if this concept has the potential to be entertaining or will simply move back certain advancements the video game industry has made, but today developer Kung Fu Factory and publisher Majesco have announced Girl Fight, a new PSN/XBLA title.  No, Girl Fight isn’t a video game adaptation of Michelle Rodriguez’s debut film so this won’t be Fight Night Champion: Ladies Edition.

Supremacy MMA [Review]

Overall Feeling:

As a mixed martial arts video game Supremacy MMA doesn’t deliver the goods due to a combat system that’s shallow and feels stiff throughout.  Offering unrestrained MMA action really isn’t a main detraction in Supremacy MMA since the no-holds barred aspect hardly comes into play or simply isn’t pushed in some areas.  With a limited roster of fighters that truthfully don’t feel that different when compared to each other, Supremacy MMA is a game that is more or less trying to appear to be a MMA game when it simply isn’t.

The Pros:

+ Damage modeling on the characters lends a nice impact to the attacks.
+ There’s an easy pick up and play nature to the game.
+ The overly edgy attitude of the game will certainly be appreciated by those who own an Affliction shirt for every day of the week.

The Cons:

- Combat is sluggish and there aren’t any distinct characteristics between fighters.
- Graphics are merely average if not slightly dated, but the ropey character models and animation is distracting.
- The story mode is somewhat pointless since the story is more annoying than entertaining and there isn’t any real drama or motivation in continuing the journey.
- Having only two female fighters almost makes the whole thing pointless.
- Presentation is very simple all around but what’s up with the lack of fighter voices and knock-out replays?
- Online multiplayer offerings are extremely limited and as of now the community is a near ghost town.

Sports are a big part of our culture since it allows us to witness amazing feats of skill and in some cases proves who the better person is in a physical bout.  Since people love a good challenge and anything that has somewhat restrained acts of violence, the sport of mixed martial arts has caught on tremendously in such a global scale that it’s actually surprising.  Honestly, when was the last time a sport managed to captivate an entire nation and go on to become a multibillion dollar industry?  Sports like rugby get meddling excitement in certain overseas markets but MMA is

EA Sports MMA Could Be A Thing Of The Past

The competition in the MMA video game genre may have dwindled based on the surprise move the UFC made this past weekend.  MMA fans out there know that the two major or at least go-to MMA leagues in North America are the UFC and Strikeforce.  With Affliction being a thing of the past, those who opted out of the UFC and still wanted to fight on the big stage always had Strikeforce as a place to call home while still being at the top of their game due to the roster the league has.  Well now Zuffa (the parent company of the UFC) has gobbled up the competition as the company has b

Supremacy MMA Adds Some Female Charm To Its Brutal Fights

Supremacy MMA is trying to separate itself from the other MMA games out there in a few key areas.  As some of you may already know from watching the first gameplay trailer, Supremacy MMA isn’t holding back in the violence department at all.  MMA itself is a brutal sport but the other games on the market (UFC from THQ and EA Sports MMA) have kept things relatively tame since they’re based on MMA leagues with sanctioned rules.  Supremacy MMA doesn’t have a league thus we can head stop dudes and see brutal injuries like a guy’s arm doing what appears to be a pretzel rotation.

This New Supremacy MMA Trailer Shows The Underbelly of Underground Fights

Supremacy MMA is aiming to be a darker and grittier MMA game compared to what else is on the market, and as of now I’m all for that.  We’ve seen just how brutal the game will be in its last gameplay trailer which had broken bones in plentiful amounts, but the gritty tone and feel that developer Kung Fu Factory is applying won’t merely be limited to the gameplay.

Supremacy MMA trailer brings some further brutality to the sport of MMA

Back when I attended E3 last year I was able to check out Supremacy MMA. The latest game in the MMA video game genre, Supremacy MMA didn’t have a lot of hype surrounding it because of the heavyweight that was EA Sports MMA taking a lot of the limelight along with Supremacy MMA only being shown behind closed doors.  While what I saw of Supremacy MMA was from a very early build, the game showed a lot of potential.
