LBP2

Big Smile Reviews: LittleBigPlanet 2

For some time now I was thinking of taking up a course in programming. Then I could finally create the perfect Sonic game. But that would take a few years of studying and a lot of money. So here is the other option, buy LittleBigPlanet 2 and start creating your very own games in a matter of days!! There are already millions of levels online, and every day more are being created. Its like every day there is new DLC and its always free.

LittleBigPlanet 2 [Review]

Overall Feeling:

It’s rare that we get a sequel that lives up to its original but once again makes the same important mark that its predecessor had. LittleBigPlanet 2 isn’t just a slightly refined version of LBP1 that allows you to make more than platformers as the game is literally a near endless source of entertainment whose creativity is only restricted by those who play the game. Playing LBP2 it’s rather clear that the game is in an entirely different galaxy compared to the first LBP and once again the game is a cornerstone moment for the gaming industry as it once again shows us something that we once thought was impossible.

The Pros:

The story mode has been refined a lot and now is fun to play through instead of feeling like a required collect-a-thon mode. LBP2 still has the same visual style found in LBP1, but the graphics themselves have been kicked up a notch and now feature some really nice particle and lighting effects. Being able to create short films, racing games or isometric shooters really opens up a new level of creativity amongst the community levels which pays off ten-fold to gamers. Browsing through user created levels is now a breeze thanks to the easy user-interface.

The Cons:

Occasionally I ran into the odd moment where I had some issues with the jumping. A few of the story levels feel like they’re tailored specifically towards co-op which sucks if you’re gaming by yourself.

It’s often hard to be truly creative in the video game business for multiple reasons. Most often developers are often tied by the restraints of their publishers who don’t want to gamble on something that’s out of the norm and would rather have a new generic action game to plop upon retail shelves.

Some fighting action makes its way into LBP2

With the amazing user created levels we’ve seen out of LittleBigPlanet 2, I think it would almost be fitting for the game to have a subtitle of some sort.  Perhaps something like LBP2: Blow Your Mind Edition or something more subtle like LBP2: Infinity would be a rather appropriate titles to sum up the possibilities offered in the game.  It may take a lot of time and dedication to execute a concept and make it into something that other people will like to play, but thanks to dedicated folks out there we have new gems like Sony vs. Marvel vs. Capcom.

Media Molecule gives us an update on how PS Move will factor into LBP2

Yesterday we got some news regarding the Trophies of LittleBigPlanet 2 and now today some news regarding the much talked about topic of PlayStation Move integration has arisen.  LBP2 supporting the PlayStation Move isn’t that much of a shocker but the key question was if the game would have Move support day 1 when it launches in January or if the goodness would come at a later date.  Well it’s kind of a combination of both based on what Sony and Media Molecule are planning.
