First Footage of Gun Runner, Midway's Attempted Stranglehold Rebranding

Uncovered like an ancient relic, footage has surfaced of yet another cancelled game from Midway’s attempts at making HD games this generation.  Posted by former Midway VFX Lead Sean Lantis, the game we have today is a title called Gun Runner which surprisingly was being built as a spiritual successor to Stranglehold.

Stranglehold - The Prelude To Sleeping Dogs

With all the wonder and entertainment video games provide us they basically allow us to go on vacation more or less. I’m not necessarily talking about how we can mentally go on vacation for a couple of hours and escape into a world devoid of worries like paying bills or dealing with other such grown-up issues, but how they allow us to see places we might never be able to visit.

New Line Cinema Is Prepping Film Version Of The Arcade Classic Rampage

Making films based on video games still seems to be a popular thing to do these days but what’s even more popular is adapting classic retro games into films.  We may still be a few years away from seeing Pac-Man be turned into a major motion picture, but with studios planning film adaptations of video games like Asteroids (that’s not a joke) I guess we can expect way more classic games to make the celluloid jump, the latest of which is Rampage.

Fist-Bump or Bitch-Slap: Midway or "YouTube Jounalists"

This is the love/hate relationship between the video game industry and myself. Every week I will pick someone who gets my Fist-bump for doing a good deed, someone who gets my undesirable Bitch-Slap for doing something wrong (or just something that pisses me off), and I'll share my experience/opinion along the way.

Awakened Is a Superhero Game That Needs To Be Published A.S.A.P. [Video]

There haven’t been too many superhero games to hit the market so when we got word of Midway’s cancelled game Hero, our collective hearts were crushed.  We only have a few pieces of concept art for Hero, but the game showed some promise through its depiction of a destroyed Chicago and San Francisco along with some nifty super powers (dudes who can control water to create dragons will forever be awesome).  Now Hero lives on in a way through the recently revealed game Awakened.

Midway was working on a superhero game and this is what it looked like

If there has been one company this generation that completely screwed up it was Midway. By Midway I’m referring to the old Midway that was shuttered and whose most valuable asset (Mortal Kombat) was later sold to WB Games.  When Midway was up on the auction block after the company had their financial issues, WB Games essentially bought the company for MK and a few key developers, the rest of Midway is now a thing of the past, which somewhat saddens me.

Midway's This is Vegas goes on a permanent vacation

Even though Midway was snatched up by Warner Brothers Interactive and subsequently broken apart except for Midway Chicago aka NetherRealm Studios, the effects of the studio’s mismanagement are still being felt today. Some shocking details have surfaced concerning Midway’s open-world action game This is Vegas, which apparently has been in a drunken stupor for the past two years since it hasn’t been shown publicly.

Ed Boon gives us an interesting Mortal Kombat 9 tease

For the past couple months news on the next Mortal Kombat installment has been extremely cryptic. Outside of a few "solid" updates such as voice actor info, most of the MK9 news has come via MK co-creator Ed Boon. Actually I wouldn't call Boon's updates news since he's just teasing us via Twitter. But Boon has posted a few interesting tidbits and once again the MK co-creator has posted something that will have all the MK die-hards talking.

Yesterday Boon posted the following message on Twitter:

Another piece of Mortal Kombat art from Vincent Proce

Late last year some amazing concept art from a Mortal Kombat reboot pitch was released.  The art made by former Midway Chicago employee Vincent Proce gave us what we’ve been wanting: a dark version of MK.  Proce’s art was detailed, original and simply awesome.  We were also lucky enough to get some insight on Proce’s art and his time at Midway in an exclusive interview.

Midway's Spy Hunter is making a comeback

Back in the PS2 era Midway revived the classic arcade game Spy Hunter. With spy action goodness and a cool theme, the game was received well and two solid sequels were released.  Of course due to the success of the game a movie was planned and Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) was attached to star and get behind the wheel of the Interceptor. But after the film attempts crashed and burn Midway released Spy Hunter 3, a terrible game combining 3rd person action with driving elements which starred Dwayne Johnson.
