Midway

Amazing concept art from a Mortal Kombat reboot pitch

Back in the day Mortal Kombat was one of the top games on the market due to the crazy moves, unique characters and of course the over-the-top violence and gore. After a rocky start when the series made the jump to 3D things settled a bit on the PS2 era with a nice series of games but they were still missing that edge we loved from the MK series and they felt a bit predictable.

Mortal Kombat 9 seeks to become the standard for online play in fighting games

Despite the recent financial troubles of Midway which resulted in the acquisition of Midway Chicago and the Mortal Kombat property by Warner Brothers Interactive, the production on the latest MK game is still going ahead full steam.

Midway gets another lawsuit

It seems like Midway just can’t catch a break. After several high profile games under performed at retail and the shady dealings involving Sumner Redstone and his sale the company for a paltry amount which had led to a subsequent investigation we all thought things couldn’t get any worse. After all things were looking up as Warner Brothers is in the process of buying off chunks of the company including the flagship Mortal Kombat license and the Midway Chicago office. Well the punches keep on coming as Midway has got themselves another lawsuit and a new set of hassles to deal with.

Wheelman hits the big screen

Originally set to coincide with the release of the game, the film adaptation of Midway/Ubisoft's “Wheelman” is finally becoming a reality.

Wheelman Offers A Solid Experience Despite A Few Bumps In The Road

Overall Feeling:

Wheelman gives the player a fun arcade action game experience that despite some tech and design issues should prove to be enjoyable to play in the middle of a game drought.

The Pros:

Tight vehicle controls, having Barcelona as the setting is nice, good action, and of course VIN DIESEL!!!

The Cons:

Most of the visuals seem like they're misssing a layer of polish and detail, the story is a bit flimsy, some missions are a pain, there's just a general feeling that things were edited or cut in order to make the release date.

ShogunGamer.com Rating :
7

Despite the open world genre being a bit too crowded as of late Midway’s “Wheelman” is almost a breath of fresh air.  Even though it isn’t as revolutionary as “Grand Theft Auto IV” or has that macabre sense of humor like “Saints Row 2” does, Wheelman does provide the player with a fun over-the-top arcade game experience that despite some issues is a fun summer movie blockbuster type game.
