The Premier Date For The Mortal Kombat Web Series Is Finally Announced

We’re two weeks away from playing the newest Mortal Kombat game but before the goodness of the new MK game will be bestowed upon us the long-awaited Mortal Kombat web series will make its debut.  The ten part live-action Mortal Kombat web series has had MK fans in complete hype overdrive since the project was announced in late January.  Since production on the web series begin in February details on the project have been a bit scarce outside of the occasional teaser pic or casting rumor that would pop up here and there.

The cast on the upcoming Mortal Kombat web series continues to be revealed leading up to its early/middle of April premier as we now know who will be playing Mileena. Perhaps known for being absolutely crazy and needing a good dentist (maybe that’s pushing it a bit as Shao Kahn obviously digs her), Mileena is a character that is a bit hard to peg down as far as actresses are concerned since there are different ways you could go with the character.

The Mortal Kombat web-series basically has my hype meter exceeding 9,000 at this point even if we’ve only seen a small handful of teaser screens and have a mostly unannounced cast.  I think we all fell in love with the vision that the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth pitch video showed us last year and we bravely put our fan expectations and hopes in Director Kevin Tancharoen in the hopes that he will deliver the MK project that most of us have been waiting well over fifteen years for.

Filming on the Mortal Kombat web series has wrapped, which is good since it’s slated to premier on April 19th, and as always we’re still in the dark concerning cast details.  Warner Brothers has made a few official cast announcements, but most of the cast details have come out through unofficial means like actors revealing things via Twitter.  The cast itself has maintained relatively mum on which actors are playing the MK characters, but thanks to the wonder that is IMDB, we may have a few cast updates for some key characters.

As excited as I am for Mortal Kombat: Rebirth I’m quickly approaching the point where I’m debating whether or not I should go into media blackout mode.  The amount of official or proper media for MK: Rebirth hasn’t been dished out to us in huge numbers, but I’m wondering if I should refrain from looking at images from the project if only to preserve the shock & awe factor upon watching the web-series for the first time when it finally comes out in April.

Our wish has finally been granted and today we have the first image of Scorpion from the upcoming live-action Mortal Kombat web series.  For the past month or so we’ve gotten some nice casting details and behind-the-scenes pics from the new Mortal Kombat project and today we have the big payoff in a cool albeit slightly small pic of Scorpion donned in his classic yellow ninja costume.

As part of the on-going series of teases/casting reveals for Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, today brings us something that should get the fanboy juices flowing: a teaser image for Scorpion.  No, we sadly don’t have a pic of actor Ian Anthony Dale dressed up in some form of the Scorpion costume, but we do have a picture taken by MK: Rebirth Director Kevin Tancharoen showing Scorpion’s iconic spear weapon.

We haven’t had much in the way of proper media for Mortal Kombat: Rebirth as the majority of the news we’ve received has been thanks to the wonderful world of Twitter.  It’s been cool that we’ve gotten a few cast reveals and some simple set pics, but the fact that official pics or heaven forbid a teaser trailer have been missing in action has made the wait for April 19th release of MK: Rebirth difficult.

Yet another major character in Mortal Kombat: Rebirth may have been cast if recent Twitter posts are to be believed.  Once again an enthused actor has spelled the beans about their involvement in MK: Rebirth and I honestly can’t blame them as the thing is shaping up to be about 10 different forms of badass.  The latest casting choice for Mortal Kombat is for a very pivotal role in the series, which in the past hasn’t exactly lived up to its video game counterpart that well.  While we don’t have a character confirmation as of now, actor Aleks Paunovic has confirmed his involve

The steady stream of casting news for Mortal Kombat: Rebirth continues in the wake of actors Darren Shahlavi and Tahmoh Penikett joining the project as Kano and Stryker.  Today brings the news that one of Mortal Kombat’s most important characters has just been cast, and from the looks of things we have another amazing casting choice on our hands.
