Metal Gear Rising Hands-on [PAX Prime 2012]

I’ve said, since I got my Sonic Team logo tattoo, that if I hadn’t gone with Sonic for permanent ink/nerd-cred I would have paid respect to Kojima-san by getting a Foxhound tattoo. So when Metal Gear Rising was first shown, I found myself a little leery, to say the least, at the concept of breaking the entire Metal Gear/tactical espionage genre being cast to the way-side in favor of a ridiculous, over-the-top action/adventure title.

FireFall Hands-on [PAX Prime 2012]

If you haven’t heard of Red 5’s FireFall at this point… well it basically means that you’re not a convention goer. They’ve consistently had the largest booth at every consumer show I’ve been to in the last couple of years. After a little investigative digging I was able to find that it’s because their benefactor is none other than The9, which, previously, owned the exclusive rights to World of Warcraft in Japan.

Devil May Cry Hands-on [PAX Prime]

I’ve been a fan of the Devil May Cry series since the first scene of the first game. I’ve long held that there’s room for ridiculousness in video games, and Devil May Cry has never tried to justify the madness its gameplay and, especially, cut-scenes provide. However, with the announcement of a reboot of the franchise from action-title masters Team Ninja, the fanbase have been rather vocal about their dislike of changes to the iconic franchise as well as its lead character Dante.

Far Cry 3 Hands-on [PAX Prime 2012]

Here’s the problem I have with the Far Cry series, as a whole: It demos really, really well. Every single time they put a demo out there, and I go hands-on for the first time, I find myself absolutely blown away. The problem being that the games themselves, when you get that full-version game you’re so excited for, always seem to drop the ball somehow.

Halo 4 Hands-on [PAX Prime 2012]

Microsoft has a tendency to drop the ball when it comes to PAX. Their booth is hardly ever the largest, or most impressive at the show… Though an argument can be made in the favor due to the titles that they tend to have. This year’s showing offered up game-play time with sequels to two of their biggest franchises: Halo and Gears of War. I wound up getting play time with both, but it was Halo 4 that caught my attention…

Dishonored Hands-on [PAX Prime 2012]

Bethesda has a history of turning out some of the best story-driven video games. Every once in a while they combine that passion for story-telling with an action-oriented video game and offer us the best of both worlds.

From the first trailer, it became obvious that Dishonored was going to be one of those projects where Bethesda tries, again, for the ‘complete package’ type of video game; providing its fans with the ability to progress through a deep, original story, while providing a smooth, satisfying gaming experience.
