Shinji Mikami

Shinji Mikami's Zwei To Be Revealed Tomorrow

After a somewhat long absence when it comes to released games, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami is finally making a comeback.  Okay, in a way he never left the biz after releasing Vanquish with Platinum Games, but Mikami has been wrapped up in his new 3rd person survival action/horror game Zwei - which may finally be unveiled tomorrow.

First Details and Image For Shinji Mikami's New Project

The survival horror genre hasn’t really had the best track record as of late as it’s nearly extinct.  Once a go-to genre back in the day for developers, survival horror games are few and far between and those that do surface are usually lacking in the quality department.  Putting the finger on where things went wrong for the survival horror genre is a tricky thing to do considering Resident Evil, the widely proclaimed “originator” of the survival horror genre, is still alive and kicking today – albeit in a slightly evolved form.

Shadows of the Damned [Review]

Overall Feeling:

Shadows of the Damned wears what it is right on the sleeve of its slick leather jacket: it’s a demon killing game with lots of dark humor and some wicked combat.  I don’t know what it is the team at Grasshopper Manufacture drinks or eats to make them think of such twisted visions and jokes, but what they’ve done in Shadows of the Damned is some of their best work.  Devoid of any major gameplay problems outside of a few poorly implemented level segments, taking a trip to the Underworld with your demon buddy in search of your one true love is extremely fun and for that I think people who enjoy out of the box games or cult films like Evil Dead owe it to themselves to play Shadows of the Damned.

The Pros:

+ Grasshopper Manufacture + Shinji Mikami is a good combo since the core shooting mechanics of SOTD are fun and feel responsive.
+ I don’t think SOTD will be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you like decapitated heads and an almost constant wave of dirty jokes then you’ll love what the story and writing has to offer.
+ The voice acting by actors Steven Blum and Greg Ellis is amazing and the soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka is an instant classic in my eyes.
+ The depiction of the Underworld and the design of the bosses offers a twisted yet often beautiful vision of utter madness.

The Cons:

- Some of the levels feel a bit too claustrophobic and static despite some of the amazing art design that’s offered.
- There are a couple of level segment which could’ve used some fine tuning since they’re less than fun to play.

There are some games that when you first go it and start playing you assume you already know everything that is to be expected from the game.  Outside of plot developments and certain boss encounters I think it’s safe to say that when someone plays a game such as Metal Gear Solid they’re going to expect lots of stealth action, a heavy helping of military mumbo jumbo and perhaps some supernatural elements that are on the verge of being ridiculous.  As a longtime fan of developer Grasshopper Manufacture and game designer Suda 51 I kind of had a general outline of what I was expectin

Shadows of the Damned - Exclusive Interview

These days it’s tough for a new video game to stick out either because of the bigger games taking up the spotlight or because people just aren’t interested in new IPs at times.  This generation we’ve been lucky enough to see some exceptional IPs launch (Gears of War, Uncharted) but even some of those games have been rather standard in terms of what they offer to the player.  Despite being a new IP, Grasshopper Manufacture’s new 3rd person action game Shadows of the Damned has a good chance of sticking out amongst the crowd.

Find Out How To Make Your Johnson Bigger In Shadows of the Damned

A lot of times people call out certain video games for the content that they feature. No, I’m not talking about far-right Republicans (maybe I ought to be careful in case I offend any uber Rush Limbaugh fans or folks of that ilk), but actual core gamers.  Some games can simply be too outlandish in the content they offer, especially when it’s obscenely immature.

Tango Gameworks Kicks Off The April Fools' Day Jokes

Typically when it comes to the prankster day that is April Fools' Day, I tend to not participate or enjoy the jokes that are to be had.  In the world of video games April Fools' Day brings forth some truly horrific jokes like the return of the Dreamcast or press release announcements for games like Resident Evil PSP or Zone of the Enders 3, which some gamers will be naïve enough to belief.

Shadows of the Damned Emerges Once More With New Screens + Video

As an ardent fan of Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture I’ve been paying close attention to Shadows of the Damned.

The Gothic Punk Vibe Of Shadows of the Damned Is Once Again On Display [Screens]

For me it has been far too long since we last saw Shadows of the Damned, the new Grasshopper Manufacture game published as part of the EA Partners program.  As someone who appreciates the work of Grasshopper Manufacture and its brilliant mastermind Suda 51, I greatly anticipated the reveal of the game at TGS last year and by no means was I disappointed with what was shown.

Suda 51's new horror game for EA will finally be unveiled soon

It hasn’t even started yet but this year’s installment of the Tokyo Game Show is already guaranteed to be the best.  Perhaps making such a proclaim may be a bit selfish on my part but I can’t help but feel “Sh!t Just Got Real” when I hear that game designer Suda 51 will finally premier his project under the EA Partners label at a TGS event on September 15th.

New Vanquish trailer is gripping and action packed

With the demo having been released earlier this week, the hype levels for Vanquish should be through the roof right now. I’ve been excited for the game since the announcement trailer was released and it’s nice to see my fellow gamers get equally excited after getting some hands on time with the game.
