I think gamers as an audience can be fickle but sometimes it’s hard not to be when certain things are tampered with.  Mixing things up within a game is fine, but there’s a very thin line between changing things for the better, catering to a specific demographic too much, or going so off the rails that it’s hard to comprehend what the logic was behind for such a move.
