Studio Liverpool

Concept Art Appears For Cancelled Studio Liverpool Project

The sting of Sony closing Studio Liverpool is still being felt and now our pain level may increase upon seeing two of the projects the studio was working on.  After wrapping up the masterpiece of arcade racing action that was Wipeout 2048, Studio Liverpool was reportedly working on two projects: another Wipeout title and a new IP - both of which were slated to appear on the next-gen PlayStation console.

New Teaser Hints At Something Is Amiss Regarding Studio Liverpool/Wipeout [Rumor]

Usually the bitching or crying done by those on the internet or fans of a particular game yields no major results, no matter how many signatures an online petition receives. At times developers may take note of some complaints to rectify a small issue within a game, but it’s not as if companies such as EA take our concerns to heart when it comes to crafting a game as the ultimate goal is achieving broad appeal to reach a financial goal.

Sony Closes Core Team At Studio Liverpool, RIP Wipeout

As if we already didn’t have enough signs which pointed to how dire this generation has been, Sony has announced that they’ve closed Studio Liverpool.  When it was known at Psygnosis in the 1990s the studio was responsible for popular games such as G-Police, Destruction Derby, and Colony Wars. But out of those classic gems Psygnosis was perhaps best known for creating the sleek and ever stylish futuristic racing game Wipeout.

Wipeout 2048 [Review]

Overall Feeling:

For a series that has been around for nearly twenty years Wipeout 2048 still packs a powerful punch as it provides fast, exciting, and simply fun racing that is a genre defining game on the PlayStation Vita.  With a few new additions in the game like wider tracks and levels that are more balanced between the realms of realism and outright fantasy, Wipeout 2048 provides the same winning and loved Wipeout formula while making sure that things are fresh and innovative.  If you’re never played a Wipeout game before and own a Vita then 2048 is the perfect entry point to the frenzy racing action found in the Anti-Gravity League.

The Pros:

+ Visuals are balanced and the art style hits the core Wipeout traits while injecting some new elements.

+ Using the analog stick to control the ships is responsive as every brake turn felt perfect.

+ Course design is varied, even by Wipeout standards.

+ Whoever designed the UI and frontend deserves a massive bonus as it’s beautiful.

The Cons:

- Multiplayer mode leaves a bit to be desired.

- Motion controls are decent but aren’t going to become the de facto standard for most gamers.

If a video game franchise has been around for over a decade you know there has to be some goodness abound.  In this age that’s filled with yearly sequels, it’s almost normal to see franchises pop up every year or every other year – that’s until their popularity wanes or the franchises continue in a near stagnant state simply because it keeps bringing in acceptable revenue.  But every once in a while we receive a franchise that is special in how every new installment is a mini-event of sorts since it provides what we all want: a good game.

Wipeout 2048 Offers Some New Tricks While Keeping The Same Wipeout Flair [Video]

Today the floodgates have opened on a bevy of games that will be available later this year on the NGP (soon to be called the PlayStation Vita).  Uncharted: Golden Abyss looks spectacular on Sony’s handheld but one game that is 100% a day 1 purchase (even if makes my bank account have a negative balance) is Wipeout 2048.  Earlier this morning we received some screens of Wipeout’s debut on the NGP which showed a more basic and grounded approach as the game takes place four years prior to the F3600 Anti-Gravity Racing League, which makes it a direct prequel of sorts to the first Wipe

New Uncharted and Wipeout NGP Screens Looks Amazing (PS Vita Is Mini PS3 Confirmed)

Sony’s successor to the PSP is poised to make a huge impact at E3 next week and today we have a small taste of the impending shock & awe that the NGP i.e. the PlayStation Vita will create.  There’s no questioning that the NGP (let’s just call it that for now) is a powerful handheld as the direct game footage Sony showed running on the device in January was beyond belief and that it what we were seeing was merely early generation 1 software made the power of the system even more staggering.

Sony is taking ModNation Racers to the PSP

ModNation Racers hasn’t even been released on the PS3 yet but Sony already has big plans for the franchise as today a PSP version of the game was announced.  Even though the game is being ported to the PSP it will still offer the full list of customizable options that its PS3 brethren can do.  So that means players will be able to create as many MGS, Super Mario or Killzone inspired characters, cars and tracks as they want and then share their content with the rest of the ModNation Racers community.
