WWE Brawl Is Officially Down For The Count

For those out there who care, another casualty in the mismanagement of THQ has been revealed but it may be a good or bad scenario for those who love action set within the squared circle.  Announced last year in an unexpected fashion was WWE Brawl, a fantasy based entry in the long running WWE series THQ has produced for well over a decade.

It may seem futile at this point considering the shape the company is in, but THQ is still trucking along as best it can by producing new titles.  The future software slate of the company is still unknown at this time, at least prior to potential E3 reveals, but it appears that THQ still has some of its internal studios producing new titles including wholly new IPs.  We already know that the newly established THQ Montreal is working on an IP but THQ’s San Diego division may have something in the works based on a recently discovered tidbit.

Over the past six years we’ve seen a lot of developers and publishers struggle to stay afloat.  There’s no denying that this current console generation has been the source of some of the best games we’ve ever played, but producing triple-A games with budgets that rival that of small Hollywood action films (Crank cost $15-20 million and Red Dead Redemption cost nearly triple that amount) isn’t easy and that has led studios to be shuttered and publishers to scale back their plans dramatically.  

THQ Closes More Studios, Shifts Focus Slightly

After a disappointing quarter which led to the Red Faction franchise being put on the backburner indefinitely, THQ has gutted several more studios along with putting even more franchises to rest.  Joining Red Faction in the heaven that dead video game franchises hang out in is the MX vs. ATV franchise.
