Scarygirl [Review]

Scary Girl isn’t a perfect platforming game per say, but it is a game that is simply an artistic delight that has a whole lot of heart behind it.  While the core of Scarygirl’s mixture of platforming and simplistic combat is sound to an extent, the game does suffer from difficulty spikes that border on mid-1990s Mega Man levels of toughness.  With that said, the ultimate achievement of Scarygirl is that it’s a beautiful platforming game that has an original look, is mostly enjoyable, and it doesn’t require too much of a time investment.  

The Pros: 

+ The art design is unbelievably good and adds a tremendous amount of character to each level.

+ There aren’t too many forks in the road, but the flow of the gameplay is good if not slightly predictable.

+ Incredible music is incredible. Seriously, the soundtrack for Scarygirl adds a tremendous flavor to the game along with being extremely soothing.

The Cons: 

- Difficulty spikes feel too sudden and almost come across as an attempt at padding the game through constant attempts at passing a section.

- Combat is easy to grasp but feels unfocused when battling large groups of enemies.

- Lack of online co-op is disappointing.

One of the terrific things about video games is that the essence of certain genres or play styles can be simple and straight to the point.  The sheer simplicity of a certain genre doesn’t mean it’s a complete cakewalk though as there can be an immediate artistry to how the game is designed and other key elements are executed.  

The Child's Play Franchise Is Making A Video Game Comeback

Maybe this will be a cool ass game that could end up being a major surprise of sorts, or maybe it’ll just be the latest piece of licensed game garbage to be thrown upon us.  But whether you love it or hate it, a video game adaptation of the classic horror franchise Child’s Play is set to be released later this year.  Best known as being the horror franchise that has the soul of a killer transferred into a child’s toy, the Child’s Play film have always had a place in the heart of horror film fans.
