More Jurassic Park movies are coming our way

After the death of author Michael Crichton last year it looked like the famous Jurassic Park franchise, in particular the film series, had been put to pasture.  While Crichton wasn’t that deeply involved in the Jurassic Park films, the last of which wasn’t even based on a novel of his, producer Kathleen Kennedy said that after Michael passed away it just wouldn’t be right doing another one without him.  Well I guess that sentiment must’ve passed or Universal wants another money maker since the Jurassic Park series looks to be returning.

[Movie Review] Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant is an easy going and enjoyable vampire film

Overall Feeling:

Cirque du Freak surprised me as it's a film that despite being aimed towards a younger audience is still enjoyable to watch. The film never once comes across as a film for kids or tweens and as a whole the movie is executed quite well. Aside from a few issues Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant is a movie that's worth checking out in the theaters or at least a rental if you like fantasy films.

The Pros:

Nice acting from John C. Reilly and the supporting cast. Good visuals from a design standpoint that offer things that most of us haven't seen before. The movie does a good job of not cramming too much mythology down our throats or giving us too much info at once. Good story that hints at an extremely deep world of mythology that only the surface was scratched on in the film.

The Cons:

The plot is fairly predictable and the slight corny factor in the dialogue may turn some off. It would've been nice if there was some more depth given to members of the Cirque du Freak. The directing could've been a bit sharper in the fighting scenes which suffer from the popular shaky close cam effect. At times you can tell stuff was removed from the film which makes the pace seem faster than it should be.

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant is the latest film based on a popular book series to come via Hollywood in the hopes that it’ll be a success of Harry Potter proportions and not another flop like Eragon.  The film seems to be hoping to ride on the recent vampire tidal wave that has hit with the success of things like True Blood and the ever infamous Twilight series.  Despite being a kid friendly vampire movie that has an entirely different set of vampire rules that most are familiar with, Cirque du Freak is a film is

A new director is at the helm for the Bioshock movie

Back in April it was announced that Universal’s adaption of the hit game Bioshock would be put on hold due to the increasing budget which was north of the $160 million range.

Asteroids is becoming a movie. WTF.

Hollywood really doesn’t know when to stop do they? Making piss poor films based on popular video games like Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Doom is one thing but making a film based on a game from the 1970s’ that had no story to begin with is really pushing the line. Today Universal announced that they will be making a film adaptation of the hit 80s game “Asteroids”. Yes, you read that correctly. A game which was nothing more than a simple vector based shooter will become a major motion picture in the near future.

Whoa... I got two personalities dude!

Keanu Reeves has had quite a career so far. First he started out as one member of a duo of airhead time travelers trying not to flunk their high-school history project, then he stopped a bus from blowing up in L.A. and later became a messiah in a futuristic cyber world. Now Keanu is stepping into another role that will surely become a highlight of his career as he will be playing the roles of Jekyll and Hyde.

Bioshock film gets halted

While most of us hate when a film adaptation of a game is announced many were quite interested to see how the film version of Bioshock would turn out. Not only did Bioshock have a bevy of themes and interesting design choices that would make it perfect for a film but the fact that director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) was involved and turned down directing duties on Pirates 4 so he could be able to direct Bioshock made many think this could be the film to break the game film curse.

'Fast & Furious' Keeps The Engine Running

Overall Feeling:

If you're a fan of the Fast and Furious series then you'll love the latest installment. It's a blast see the original cast back the and the film manages to keep things fresh instead of feeling like a retread.

The Pros:

Vin Diesel+fast cars+hot women+action = fun.

The Cons:

Some of the music isn't as catchy as it was in previous installments.

There are some films out there that get sequels that feel tacked on or unoriginal. But one franchise that has managed to stay fresh has been “The Fast and the Furious” series. Sure, the series is nothing more than mindless fun and doesn’t have a gripping and deep story but each installment has provided a fun experience with memorable lines and action. The latest and perhaps best installment, “Fast & Furious”, reunites the key cast from the first film in a slightly darker and more involved story which should certainly please fans.
