Overkill Software (PayDay: The Heist) Working With Valve On Mystery Project

Collaborations in the video game industry are few and far between these days since studios are naturally competitive and working on mega projects is too much of a gamble for some.  But every now and then we will see two unlikely yet talented forces unit to work on something and today we have confirmation on something that could go on to be the next big thing.

TL;DR - Mar 9 - Durango, SteamBox, Heavy Hitters

First of all, I have to throw out an apology for not getting around to a TL;DR yesterday. Due to an unforeseen migraine I had to 1) bail out of a party early, and 2) bail out of working. Sadface. Anyways! We’re back tonight, and I’ve got a couple of stories that caught my eye that I wanted to share: Microsoft’s next console doesn’t have a disc-drive, Valve confirms the SteamBox is NOT a thing… yet, and BioShock Infinite reveals their new mid-tier bosses the ‘heavy hitters.’

Counter-Strike Is Bound For The PSN & XBLA In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

I don’t think anyone expected it to happen, but this little game called Counter-Strike is actually heading to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.  For the past ten years Counter-Strike has been a huge staple of the PC gaming scene and is considered one of the most hardcore PC FPS games on the market.  Considering that Counter-Strike is deeply rooted in certain aspects only available on the PC (constant updates, user-mods), it never seemed like Valve would bring the series over to the consoles, especially considering their somewhat apprehensive attitudes concerning the HD

NECA Reveals Their First Series Of Products Based On Valve's Video Games

Valve is a company that has an extensive roster of franchises with enough unique characters that people desperately want whatever type of merchandise they can featuring those characters.  Unlike other video game companies, Valve hasn’t opted to delve into the video game merchandise front in a huge way as they’ve only featured small things in the past like limited edition statues or highly cute plush Companion Cubes.

Fist-Bump or Bitch-Slap: Valve or EASports

This is the love/hate relationship between the video game industry and myself. Every week I will pick someone who gets my Fist-bump for doing a good deed, someone who gets my undesirable Bitch-Slap for doing something wrong (or just something that pisses me off), and I'll share my experience/opinion along the way.

Portal 2 [Review]

Overall Feeling:

Portal 2 is like reliving your first kiss or watching a pig fly for the first time. It’s a gaming experience you would tell your kids about. Surpassing that of the original, Portal 2 delivers the perfect mix of puzzle solving gameplay, with a soundtrack I want to burn to a CD... people still do that right? The difficulty progression is set at the perfect rate, however the replay value might be missing.

The Pros:

+ Co-op gameplay adds its own unique story and characters for players.

+ The voice acting is the best I’ve heard in a very long time.

+ New elements such as the Propulsion and Repulsion Gels, provide great new dynamics

+ The charm of Portal: Still Alive is maintained and not discarded.

The Cons:

- The replay value could be a hit or miss depending on Valves plans for DLC.

ShogunGamer.com Rating :

The history of sequels has shown us that sometimes it’s best to stay with the original. This can be taken even further when you look at games. Portal: Still Alive was a shining star in a sky filled with clouds and video game pollution. As a game that was released in the Orange Box, it wasn’t a standalone title.  Where am I going with this? Look at it like this, if Portal was a movie, it would have been straight to DVD. Garnering so much success a blockbuster sequel was made. For Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Steam users this head turning experience is called Portal 2.

Portal 2 Early Release?

Portal virtually is a game about getting to your objective faster through using portals. Getting Portal 2 to launch early you’re going to need The Potato Sack.

Valves latest marketing ploy is a clever one at that. Using www.aperturescience.com/glados@home/ to lure players into the sack—The Potato Sack to be exact. Who ever said rhyming isn’t fun should eat a bun as hot as the sun then shoot themselves with a gun.  See fun.

Cake, Cubes and Portal 2

In the past few weeks Valve has been releasing several PSAs depicting what we can only imagine to be our new heroes in the Portal universe.

Portal 2 will take players back to Aperture Laboratories, where they will play as robots Atlas and P-body. The two mechanical men will be pushed through several problem solving exercises under the guidance of GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion. Using the portal guns, players will advance through the stages to an evident goal -- Probably cake and grief counselling.
