Kung Fu Superstar Seeks To Evolve Martial Arts Video Games [Developer Interview]

As gamers we usually partake in games that deep inside we wish we could actually be a part of. While most of us may not wish we were on the front lines of an intense modern warfare battle, there’s always that element inside us that wishes we were either a spy on an intense mission or a skilled driver with a carefree attitude that could go wild in a city as they evade the cops.

Capcom Announces DmC DLC Starring Vergil

Good old Capcom has gone and done gamers a solid but at the same time have also committed one of those moves which may make us raise an eyebrow or two. After revealing that Vergil, Dante’s twin brother, would be in Devil May Cry gamers of course wondered if the classic character would be playable, either in a co-op centric mission or in a separate mode within the game. Well, I have good news and bad news: Vergil is indeed playable in DmC but it’s via post-release DLC.

LittleBigPlanet Karting [Review]

Overall Feeling:

As the first spin-off of the series, LittleBigPlanet Karting does an excellent job of maintaining the look and feel the franchise is known for while presenting that in an entirely new experience.  The actual kart racing action provided in the game is surprisingly good despite some of the tracks being a bit too straightforward and having to contend with A.I. that may not throw banana peels on the track but are still nonetheless annoying at times.  With the powerful addition of full 3D in the Create Mode, LittleBigPlanet Karting is an enjoyable game that certainly doesn’t dishonor the franchise as it instead expands it in a rather terrific way.

The Pros:

+ Controls and feel of the kart is perfect.
+ The style of the game falls perfectly in line with past LBP games and still looks good in the process.
+ Create Mode may take some time getting used to thanks to the additional tools, but once again it’s executed perfectly.
+ A nice amount of variety is presented in the Story Mode.

The Cons:

- Enemy A.I. can be a bit too brutal at times.
- Single-player campaign is a tad on the short side, at least for a LBP experience.
- A consistent level of driving skill is missing from some of the tracks.
- Some of the visuals look a bit soft compared to the immediate crispness found in other LBP titles.

Sometimes a particular video game may become so popular that a spin-off is called for.  A rarity to occur these days given how full-on numbered sequels are usually considered the way to go, a spin-off may present some uniqueness amidst a product gamers are otherwise familiar with.  When, or if, a game does go the spin-off route it can usually go one of two ways: it becomes a welcomed addition as it captures the essence of the property, such as Halo: ODST, or it serves as a cruel reminder that despite how great something may be doing a side project won’t necessarily capture the sam

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Final Boss Revealed + Intro Video

Sony may not be doing their best to promote PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale considering the game comes out in less than two weeks, but such a thing ultimately won’t have an effect on the overall quality of the product.  Debates about the similarities between PS All-Stars and the Smash Bros. franchise will likely continue until the planet Earth is invaded by aliens or suddenly goes boom, but the team at SuperBot Entertainment have done something that will likely please everyone who has been a PlayStation fan since day 1.

Distance Could Be The Comeback Title For The Arcade Racing Genre [Developer Interview]

Video game genres necessarily don't come and go in the blink of an eye, but some of them do go away for brief periods of time while others step into the spotlight to be loved by gamers and the industry.  In some cases it can be disappointing to see one genre immediately become the go-to game for the industry since it does limit creativity and it also means something we love is put on the backburner.

Old School Wrestling May Return Thanks To Pro Wrestling X

Wrestling video games haven’t really disappeared over the years but their quality has certainly diminished.  With THQ retaining the core rights to the WWE games for the past twelve years, and until 2017 pending the company doesn’t shutter, the good old days of wrasslin video games have disappeared in favor of constant repetition and fine tuning that doesn’t go nowhere.

Need For Speed Movie Gains Another Incredible Actor

With two cast members already aboard the film adaptation of Need For Speed, including the amazing Aaron Paul, the project has entailed the services of yet another stellar actor.  Joining the theatrical debut of the NFS series is British actor Dominic Cooper.  Best known for portraying Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger, Cooper will play one of the main protagonists within the film - an update which finally gives us our first details on the plot.

Uncharted Is Returning To The Vita Once Again In An Unexpected Game

Fans of the Uncharted series may be happy to hear that the franchise is making a return to the PlayStation Vita in a smaller and less action oriented adventure.  After serving as a launch game for the Vita earlier this year, Uncharted is returning to Sony’s handheld once more in Uncharted: Fight or Fortune - a new card based game.

Dragon Ball Z For Kinect [Review]

Overall Feeling:

The only thing that Dragon Ball Z For Kinect excels in is being an example of what not to do when developing a fighting game for the Kinect.  The game may not have attempted to provide precision martial arts to Kinect owners, but its poor attempts at registering simple moves and providing combat that’s fun to experience is what drags the game down and makes it nearly unbearable to play by the beginning of the second saga.  Dragon Ball fans may be interested in dishing out iconic character moves, but I recommend that everyone stays away from the game unless they can rent it or pick it up in the bargain bin for $10.

The Pros:

+ The graphics are good in conveying the characters and battlefields.

+ Key character moves (such as doing the Kamehameha) are presented well considering the circumstances.

The Cons:

- Combat is horrendous in how it’s paced, the recognition of moves, and how the more extravagant elements are represented.

- The key DBZ plot points may be present but things feels disjointed since it’s just one battle after another.

- Content feels lacking since much of it is stuff DBZ fans have played endlessly already.

- Menu navigation is terrible.

Sometimes there are concepts for games which are wonderful in every category while there are others that should never move past the initial pitch/prototype stage.  We’ve seen quite a few games this generation that should’ve never been greenlit but nonetheless were merely because it filled a particular genre a company was lacking in or fit mood of gamers at that given time.

Three Major Franchises Unite For Heroes Vs.

I never cease to be amazed at all the cool games that come out in Japan.  At this stage the amount of truly amazing games that can be placed under the sometimes dubious triple-A moniker may be rare, but Japanese developers are still doing some exciting things, some of which see our fanboy dreams finally become a reality.
