Well the New Year is already off with a running start. Along with plenty of scandal amongst the gamer’s universe in the form of SOPA and BioWare bans, 90s platforming/action favourite dev. Crystal Dynamics has teased a bit of information concerning a new IP in 2012, via Community and Communications Manager Megan Marie’s Member Blog on Square Enix.
“The New Year ushers in more than just fresh calendars and renewed resolutions. 2012 will prove to be a very exciting year for Crystal Dynamics, more so than any in recent memory. Not only will our team be eating, sleeping, and breathing Tomb Raider, but we’ll also be hard at work preparing to reveal exciting new intellectual property to the world.”
So obviously not a whole lot for us to run off of at this point, but unfortunate we have to nix previously owned properties like Gex, Pandemonium and Kain, which makes me a little sad… I was really hoping for a new Gex before the end of the world.
2012 also marks Crystal Dynamics’ 20th year in the industry and Meagan went on in the blog to say that they will be “working even harder in 2012 to produce product that positions us as a top tier innovator within the industry.”
So all in all this could be a rather big year for the crew at Crystal Dynamics: A new IP on the horizon, being teased straight out the gate, a mere three days from the start of the new year and, of course, the revamped Tomb Raider which the team is still putting a significant amount of effort into. It all sounds great so far, though personally I thought the downloadable, short-form, top-down, co-op action take was a pretty impressive one already.
