Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron Trailer Has Dinobots, Swordfights, And Lots Of Explosions

A potential highlight of gaming this year could be Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, the latest and possibly greatest Transformers game from Activision.  Following in the steps of Transformers: War on Cybertron, this latest TF entry once again features the Autobots and Decepticons doing battle and lots of stuff blowing up in a rather glorious fashion that will in the process make TF fans even more jaded over how crappy the live-action Transformers films were.

Sadly Transformers: Fall of Cybertron wasn’t being showed off at GDC earlier this month, but this new trailer has fulfilled my need of seeing epic Transformer action. With the wub-dub soundtrack at maximum levels, tons of robot on robot sword fighting, and massive ships going boom, this trailer is pretty damn awesome and it’s even more impressive since all of it is in-game footage with not a single snippet of pre-rendered CG footage.

This new look at Transformers: Fall of Cybertron may feel like it was edited in a style similar to the trailers for the TF films, but that aside I really couldn’t find any issues with what was shown.  Fire breathing dinobots, Decepticons that look like robots and not mass scrap heaps, and a Cybertron that isn’t a dumb honeycomb tech world has me pleased so far. What has me even more pleased is that Activision has given the game a release date which is August 28, 2012 – which just so happens to be my birthday. So on top of birthday cake, beer, hanging with friends and the gf I’ll also be able to become a robot savior and save Cybertron or ruin it in the shoes of a Decepticon .

It’s nice that Activision hasn’t sent Transformers: Fall of Cybertron to die as they have some of their other properties since August is a relatively low key month outside of the release of Sleeping Dogs and perhaps one or two other games. With how good Transformers is looking right now and the fandom the series has we could see Fall of Cybertron become a surprise hit of 2012.
