Today we got our first look at actual gameplay footage from Highmoon Studios’ Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. More importantly we got our first look at the fearless Dinobot leader Grimlock in action.
No surprise that Grimlock is essentially a tank type of character. He carries a large energon sword and shield. This leads me to believe, that the Dinobots will be facing more melee prone characters. I’m currently playing through War for Cybertron and let me tell you its effin’ hard. Those damn Autobots are pretty good at laying the fire down on you. That all being said, it will be interesting to see how much range is given to these characters and whether or not they will be multiplayer friendly.
In case you watched the trailer with the volume off, we also got confirmation of two Transformer’s factions. Now last year during the cinematic reveal of FoC, we got our first look at Grimlock, but no other Dinobots. Now we’ve received verbal and visual confirmation that the dinos will be in game and playable. Both Snarl and Swoop make an appearance in the trailer.
The second faction we see are the Insecticons. The swarms of enemies Grimlock is fighting are more than likely, clones of one of the three Insecticons. While Grimlock is certainly one of my favourite characters next to Soundwave and Megatron, it slightly bothers me that he is on Cybertron. Depending on which cannon the game is using, the origin of the Dinobots is different. In the animated series the Dinobots were created by two Autobots, while in the comics they were an elite Autobot task force on Cybertron. With the latter however, they were never actually seen on Cybertron. Space Dinos!
Either way I trust Highmoon in providing a clear and decisive origin for these beloved Autobot misfits. Continuity matters!
Anyways, the trailer also stated that we can expect more Dinobot action later this month. So, stay tuned.
