Capcom has done us a solid by giving us a HD re-release of a game many of us adore. Today it was announced that come this Fall Okami will appear on the PlayStation 3 in a HD remix which will see the game update with improved visuals, PlayStation Move support, and Trophies. Yay for being able to do celestial brush attacks with the PS Move!
After becoming a cult hit when the game was originally released on the PS2, Okami went on to receive a re-release on the Wii in 2008 but it appeared as if that’s all Capcom has planned for the franchise save for an Amaterasu appearance in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Thankfully that isn’t the case as we’re getting a fancy HD remix for the PS3.
There isn’t anything too fancy to the HD version of Okami as it’s simply the game in 16:9 format with PS Move integration for the attacks and crisp visuals that will make fans of the series get all tingly inside. Now given some of Capcom’s past transgressions there could be some worry over how Okami HD will be screwed up. Having a good thing is never quite perfect but in the case of Okami’s return it may actually be as perfect as we want it to be.
On the graphics side of things the HD port of Okami is looking good so it doesn’t seem to be a repeat of what occurred with Resident Evil 4 last year. So with that in mind and all the other goodies the game provides (YAY at Trophies!), the $19.99 price point ought to make a few people actually forgive Capcom for some of the stuff they’ve done in the past few years.
So barring any major screw ups like having a watermark for a website on the box art or a port that should’ve never seen the light of day, Okami HD may give the series the resurgence it needs to become a mega heat. But of course let’s hope such a thing doesn’t lead to an Okami sequel helmed by an inept studio that in turn ruins a masterpiece.
Okami HD will be available later this year exclusively on the PlayStation Network.
