In all their infinite wisdom Capcom has decided to do something special to promote one of their marquee titles. No, Capcom isn’t doing a nationwide bus tour of DmC to prove that the game isn’t garbage as they’re instead opening a boutique Resident Evil themed restaurant in Japan. Yup, those who reside in Japan can potentially eat an actual Jill sandwich for a potentially obscene price.
The latest in a line of pop-up establishments similar to those that appear in the U.S. or Europe, the Biohazard Café & Grill S.T.A.R.S will serve themed food in an atmosphere appropriate setting. Capcom has yet to issue details concerning the menu of the restaurant, but it could likely mirror the one Capcom featured for their high-end restaurant + bar which featured a Tyrant steak and a cake desert modeled after the brain of a Licker. Yuummmm, a big piece of meat and a vanilla cake with red sauce on top in the shape of brains.
The Biohazard Café may sound like its completely pointless, but small themed shops like this are common in Japan at this point and as a Resident Evil fan I would be tempted to go if the prices weren’t too exorbitant. Those who may venture towards Japan will be able to check out the Biohazard Café as Capcom is hoping to keep it open for around a year. Sadly unless we get a boatload of money, I and the Shogun Gamer staff won’t be able to enjoy $15 drinks and $30 entrees and give you our first restaurant review.
In the end I doubt opening a café will bolster the sales of Resident Evil 6 in Japan, but you need to appreciate Capcom’s marketing sense as they’re doing something different and of course it’s receiving attention.
