PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Receives Two New Characters + New Stage [Video]

The cast of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale now has +2 as Sony has announced two additional characters that will be joining the game.  Announced last night during Sony’s special EVO event, PlayStation All-Stars will now see the tyrannical madman that is Heihachi Mishima join the cast in addition to the ever cute quasi PlayStation mascot that is Toro.

Announcing a fighting game character at an event like EVO is fitting but I’ll admit that I’m kind of disappointed in both of the reveals.  It’s nice that we have another 3rd party character in PlayStation All-Stars, but wasn’t the point of the game to see characters in a setting that’s entirely new to them?  Seeing Nathan Drake punch Kratos is where the fun of PlayStation All-Stars will derive from but having Heihachi in the mix of things is just ok and not that amazing to be honest.

Even the inclusion of Toro is kind of meh despite him being associated with the PlayStation brand. If we hadn’t just seen Toro in Street Fighter X Tekken I think the impact of his appearance in PS All-Stars would’ve been greater, but as of now it’s simply a thing that is happening.

The roster reveals made at EVO may not have been terribly exciting, but Sony and SuperBot Entertainment did reveal a new stage.  Joining levels inspired by Jak & Daxter, God of War, and LBP will be a stage based on PaRappa the Rapper – in particular the dojo of Chop Chop Master Onion.  Featuring the same vibrant style originally seen in PaRappa, the stage looks amusing and I think the game that it has been mashed-up with will prove to be surprising.

On top of all the roster and stage news that was unveiled, Sony has confirmed that PlayStation All-Stars will be released in North America on October 23 and will later arrive in Europe two days later on October 25th.  Seeing as how the October release date will soon creep up on us we’re bound to receive more character reveals shortly.

Thankfully we may not have to wait too long for additional character reveals as something is bound to be revealed at the San Diego Comic Con. Will Cole from Infamous finally be revealed or will Sony give us the long awaited reveals of Jak & Daxter or even Ratchet & Clank. I guess we’ll find out shortly but at this point I hope the next crop of character reveals are based on classic PlayStation brand characters.
