Papo & Yo Is Finally Given A Release Date + PSN PLAY Promotion Is Unveiled (New PSN Games Galore)

One of 2012’s main GOTY candidates now has a release date and a much sought after price confirmation. No, I’m not talking about Halo 4 or some other major triple-A franchise game but am instead referring to the ever amazing Papo & Yo.  Since being unveiled last year the game hasn’t had a release window but now Sony has announced that the game will be made available on the PlayStation Network next month.

The genre defining artistry of Papo & Yo will be available to gamers in North America starting August 14th.  It’s always nice to find out a game is coming out sooner rather than later, especially in the case of Papo & Yo as I’ve been consistently stunned whenever I saw the game at recent tradeshows such as GDC or E3.  Obviously the best bet of news concerning the release of Papo & Yo is that the game will only cost $14.99 while PlayStation Plus subscribers will only have to fork over $11.99.

The reveal of Papo & Yo’s release and price is part of Sony’s new PSN Play 2012 promotion.  Starting at the end of this month gamers can experience four unique PSN games all of which can be pre-ordered now digitally for a discounted price and the bonus of receiving game specific PS3 themes.  Joining Papo & Yo in the PSN PLAY promotion will be The Expendables 2: Video Game (July 31), Sound Shapes (August 7), and CounterStrike: Global Offensive (August 21).  Each game in the PSN Play promotion will have a discounted price for PS Plus subscribers in addition to a nifty PS3 theme, which in the case of The Expendables will likely showcase the chiseled visage of Sly Stallone.

It’s nice to see Papo & Yo step into the spotlight for this new PSN promotion as the game is amazing. Seriously, if anyone out there enjoys games like Journey or Ico you’ll likely love Papo & Yo since the game is in the same vein, both artistically and from a gameplay perspective.
