Project Sora (Kid Icarus: Uprising) Disbands

Another day, another developer vanishes from the gaming world... this time it's the team behind Kid Icarus: Uprising, Project Sora. According to the developer's website, Project Sora has been closed since June 30 for reasons still unknown. The website itself will close down as of July 31.

Now it's important to know that Project Sora was merely a branch on the tree that is Sora Ltd. Masahiro Sakurai, founder of Sora Ltd., opened Project Sora back in 2005. The studios first and only creation was Uprising.

Again, to be clear, Project Sora was disassembled, not Sora Ltd. So before we release Godzilla on Japan in revolt, things need to be reported properly. For some reason things are getting lost in translation, with several sites reporting faulty information. Now I won't name names, basically because we have class... and we don't want a law suit... or something.

For those who don't know, Sora Ltd. is the force behind Kirby and Super Smash Bros. If you didn't know that, we can't be friends anymore. It's worth noting that the closure comes a few weeks after announcing Super Smash Bros. 4. Sora Ltd and Sakurai are still spear heading the project, with added help from Namco Bandai.

It's never good to see people lose their jobs, but there could be more than meets the eye... you know, like a Transformer. With the closure of Project Sora, it could mean something bigger is in the works. Yeah, I know it doesn't make any sense, but we're Westerners, Eastern logic sometimes goes right over our heads. There are too many questions, and not enough answers to truly speculate on where this is going. In the end we're just going to have to sit and wait.
