Rockstar Games Releases New GTAV Screens + Small Audio Tidbit, Tease Of Future Red Dead Announcement
We’ve been patiently waiting or something to be released since November and at long last Rockstar Games has given us our second look at Grand Theft Auto V. Released today totally unexpectedly, we have two new in-game screenshots showing us the glorious and ever beautiful place that is Los Santos. Seeing two simple screenshots may not be as epic as a grand trailer that shows us the world of Los Santos in great detail, but at this point I’m sure gamers will grab whatever GTAV media is given to them.
There’s honestly not much to analyze in these new screenshots as one shows a police helicopter surveilling the streets of Los Santos while the other shows a more tranquil moment as an NPC idly sits by a pond in a downtown park. Graphically both of the screens look impressive (damn at that draw distance) so we shouldn’t have a repeat of GTAIV in which the media that was released showed obvious downgrades compared to what was shown previously.
Rockstar still remained mum as to GTAV or when we would see the game next so as of now we’re still out of luck in that regard. However, interesting GTAV tidbit was revealed this morning via the Sirius XM satellite radio show Opie & Anthony. Those who closely follow Rockstar Games should know that the studios’s go-to audio extraordinaire Lazlow is friendly with the O&A staff, thus a lot of the guys from the show do voice-overs in games ranging from GTA to Bully. This morning it was mentioned that O&A co-host Anthony Cumia was visiting Rockstar to record some audio for a game. While it was never explicitly said what game Anthony was recording for, it was allued that it was indeed GTAV.
The reason this news is kind of important is because it gives us a clue that the game could be in the home stretch development wise as supplementary audio, usually for the radio stations and TV commercials, is recorded near the end of the dev cycle. I don’t think GTAV will come out this year like some “esteemed” industry analysts tend to believe, but the possible March/April 2013 release window is looking to be more of a sure thing at this point. Btw, it should be noted that Anthony Cumia sang the awesome song for Pisswasser in GTAIV. So will we receive another wonderful ballad poking fun at consumerism in GTAV?
On top of the GTAV news, Rockstar also alluded to upcoming developments concerning the Red Dead franchise. “Stay tuned for further announcements about the future of the Red Dead series,” said Rockstar when asked about sequels to games such as Bully and L.A. Noire. Most of the time Rockstar doesn’t say a single peep about sequels so the mere fact that we got a comment about the Red Dead series is kind of a big deal. Now it is possible that Rockstar could suddenly go silent on the matter for one reason or another, but maybe we’ll visit the Old West sooner rather than later based on this new tease.
So there you have it, we got a small GTAV update and a somewhat major tease about the future of the Red Dead series. While what we received today isn’t groundbreaking as seeing gameplay footage or learning the plot of a game, it’s still nice that Rockstar continues to be forthcoming by giving us something to sink our teeth into as opposed to leaving us in the dark for three years.
