It may have only taken as long as the gap between the Olympic games and the average term of a U.S. President, but the Trophy patch for Metal Gear Solid 4 is finally happening. No, this isn’t yet another troll moment by Hideo Kojima and the other fine folks at Kojima Productions as the MGS4 Trophy patch is indeed a thing that isn’t a grand illusion created by computers who want to put nanomachines in us or some nonsense like that.
The fact that it took four years for a Trophy patch to be released for MGS4 is still kind of inexcusable, even with the knowledge that KojiPro has been busy with Metal Gear Rising, the Fox Engine, Project Ogre, and the quasi reboot of Zone of the Enders. It would’ve been nice to receive the Trophy Patch a year or two ago, but I guess in the grand scheme of things it makes a small amount of sense to release it now seeing as how it’s the 25th anniversary of the MGS franchise.
Those out there who have been waiting four painstakingly long years for the Trophy patch to happen won’t have to wait for it too much longer as it’s set for release in early August. Gamers in Japan will be receiving the patch on Monday and while a release for Western territories hasn’t been announced it could be possible that it’ll be released next week as well.
Gamers who already have MGS4 will be able to pop the game in and download the patch while newer copies of the game sold at retail will already have Trophy support right out of the box. So if you’re one of the four PS3 gamers who hasn’t experience the saga of Old Snake then go out and buy the game to see what you’re missing out on.
The complete Trophy List for MGS4 has been released and all I can say is “Good luck Bro” to those who want to earn the much sought after Platinum Trophy. I am impressed with the thought KojiPro has put into the Trophies as they’re unique and will require some skill, but if you want to “Sounds of the Battlefield” Trophy for collecting all the iPod songs then good luck. I seriously mean that as achieving such a thing entails obtaining all the emblems for the game such as finishing it in less than three hours, not killing anyone, not being detected, etc. I’m sure a few fine folks will sink some time into channeling their inner Big Boss but for the rest of us the Platinum Trophy will be out of reach forever.
