Announcing a game can always be a tricky thing since a publisher/developer may not want to completely show their hand. Sometimes it’s best to leave something up to the imagination of the audience to turn on the chatterboxes and get people hyped. The reveal of Warframe from developer Digital Extremes ended up having a lot of people talk about it despite only releasing a simple teaser video to the masses.
What got people yapping was that Warframe was aiming to be an in-depth 3rd person F2P game and more importantly it was set in a sci-fi universe that looked original. If people were abuzz about Warframe before I expect them to enter the next level of hype with this gameplay teaser.
As a squad based action game I think people had certain expectations for Warframe but those will likely be exceeded based on what this new video shows. Starting off a bit slow with some basic story exposition, the video then shifts to actual gameplay which includes all sorts of fancy sci-fi based attacks along with some old-fashioned sword slicing and dicing.
Fans of Digital Extremes will likely flip out while watching this video since it’s once again shows that the studio has gone back to their roots to create Warframe. Opting to go with familiar sci-fi designs laced with an extravagant flair, I’m really digging the design of the game and it’s a huge bonus that it looks fun to play as well. So far we haven’t seen many F2P games enter a realm that’s on par with console games, but Warframe is definitely entering such territory.
Warframe doesn’t have a firm release date right now but if you’re interested in the game then you can currently sign up for the closed beta set to kick off this Fall.
