Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD Is Finally Given A Release Date For The PSN

With skateboarding games not being as plentiful as they once were the options gamers have are somewhat dry these days.  EA’s Skate series is dead and buried but thankfully the Tony Hawk franchise returned last month with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD.  As a HD remake of the classic Tony Hawk games the product as a whole was solid as it provided that same classic formula but with a new coat of paint that not only looked good but managed to hold things together. Originally only Xbox 360 gamers could enjoy THPS HD as it was part of Microsoft’s Summer Of XBLA campaign, but PS3 gamers can soon jump into the action as well.

Activision has announced that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD will be released on the PlayStation Network on August 28th.  A month removed from when the game appeared on XBLA, PS3 gamers thankfully can partake in some old-school skateboarding in a matter of weeks as opposed to waiting an additional month or two.  Price information wasn’t released, but the game will likely have the same $14.99 price tag as it had on XBLA.

Developer Robomodo won’t be providing any bonuses to the PS3 entry in the game, but there’s still the promise of additional DLC and the chance that Activision may greenlight a full-on Tony Hawk game via the fine folks at Robomodo.  I had a fun time playing THPS HD on the Xbox 360 so if you’re a PS3 gamer wanting a new skateboarding game I would definitely give Tony Hawk a shot.

A PC release date still hasn’t been announced for THPS HD but Activision promises more details will be announced in the coming weeks.
