Vergil Officially Returns For DmC [Video]

Ninja Theory may finally be building up some goodwill amongst the Devil May Cry fanbase as the studio has finally revealed their take on Vergil, Dante’s twin brother.  An iconic badass in the Devil May Cry franchise, Vergil was a character that was long rumored to be in Ninja Theory’s reimagining of DmC and now we have the complete goods on him thanks to this new Gamescom 2012 trailer.

Thankfully Ninja Theory haven’t trolled us by making Vergil a ginger as he still has the white locks he’s known for in addition to being a fan of blue jackets, albeit of a slightly darker color this time out.  Vergil’s character has been changed up a bit as he’s the leader of a group trying to expose the demons for what they truly are, but there are hints of that cold exterior we all know and love amongst some of the banter he has with Dante.

Whether or not Vergil will be a playable character remains to be seen as Ninja Theory hasn’t commented as to such and this new trailer only shows Dante in action.  It’s highly possible that we once again will experience the combat excellence of Vergil and his glowing laser like sword, but I just shudder to imagine what the reaction will be if Vergil is presented as a $5.99 DLC character. Obviously we don’t know if such a thing will be the case but I wouldn’t put it past Capcom since they’ve done other such silly things in the past.

Personally I’m totally onboard DmC at this point since this trailer is really damn good. Vergil’s design is nearly perfect as it’s not a radical design alteration yet it’s not a carbon copy of what we saw in DMC3.  That along with the acting of Vergil has me sold on the character and it also helps that the style the game provides is at maximum levels in this trailer.

In the end I still think there’ll be constant debates as to the combat or other gameplay elements, but from a design perspective it really looks like Ninja Theory is hitting it out of the park by retaining the gothic look of DMC yet adding a bit of fusion to it.

So yeah, with this addition of Vergil I’m totally aboard the DmC hype train even if Trish or the lovely Lady don’t make an appearance.
