He may be able to sneak past officers of the law and pull off elaborate heists, but even Sly Cooper can’t evade the always dreaded occurrence of a game delay. Amidst Sony’s amazing Gamescom conference yesterday the company announced that the forthcoming return of the Sly Cooper series in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time would be bumped to 2013.
Originally slated to appear on both the PS3 and PlayStation Vita this year, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time has since been given the old release bump to 2013, February 2013 to be exact. A reason as to the delay wasn’t given by Sony so it’s unclear if the game simply needed more time to brew as PlayStation All-Stars did or if the PS Vita port was perhaps dragging behind, which is a big no-no for Sony’s new strategy of releasing dual platform titles.
The sudden delay of Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time may appear as if it’ll give both our wallets and schedule a bit of a break since this Holiday season is crammed, but February 2013 isn’t any better either. Now up against the likes of Dead Space 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and BioShock Infinite it may be hard for gamers to give the attention Sly and the gang need no matter what day the game comes out on.
As a longtime Sly fan I’ll be there day 1 no matter what, but I hope other gamers will give Sly Cooper a shot as it’ll be a shame to see the game underperform merely because it’s up against a group of gaming heavyweights.
-Update-
A rep from Sony has clarified the release shift for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time isn't because of development issues on either the PS3 or Vita version, but is instead simply a matter of spreading software releases across a greater period of time. So thankfully both the PS3 and Vita versions of Thieves in Time haven't run into development issues so we're bound to receive double the goodness once the games are released in February.
