Chances are there are a bunch of people still amped over The Avengers and are likely counting down the days until the movie is released on Blu-ray next month, including Shogun’s very own Casey White. As a superhero movie The Avengers was pretty kick ass and I’ll even be upfront in saying that I did prefer it ever so slightly compared to The Dark Knight Rises. Since comic book and video game fans are still yearning for some Avengers action in lieu of waiting three more years for the sequel to come out, then perhaps Ubisoft’s upcoming Avengers based brawler will satisfy that need.
Receiving a brawler featuring the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America may not be as good as a full-on action game, but I guess it’ll serve some purpose for those who simply want some Marvel based video game action. Avengers: Battle For Earth didn’t look that bad at E3 even after it was gleamed that the game would utilize the Kinect on the Xbox 360 version, which kind of speaks volumes as to how good the concept is since prior Kinect brawlers have been dreadful.
No major updates have been released for the game in advance of its October release, details on the Wii U version are still scarce, but Ubisoft did release a new trailer for Gamescom. There may be some few liberties taken here and there by the inclusion of characters such as Spider-Man and Venom, but the game looks rather good for what it’s trying to achieve. As a superhero based brawler I can appreciate the attempt Ubisoft is doing to make the battles feel large and like they have an epic scope compared to just taking place on a 2D plane.
Avengers: Battle for Earth may not be the complete action romp that we want, but it does look like an adequate substitute for the time being. And who knows, maybe by the time The Avengers 2 rolls around in 2015 Disney will have their house in order and will give us the Avengers game we’ve been dreaming of with the added bonus that it’ll be on next-gen platforms.
