The Most Iconic Bond Film Of All Time Joins 007 Legends

We’re getting closer and closer to the release of Skyfall, the newest James Bond movie, and Activision has finally revealed the final film set to be included in 007 Legends. To no real surprise, the fifth and final classic Bond film bound to be retold in 007 Legends is none other than the all-time classic that is Goldfinger.

One of the more iconic Bond films to be released, Goldfinger pretty much has it all - silly character names, memorable moments, absurd action, and henchmen who seem invulnerable. A turning point in which the Bond films became more fantastical, which would reach an all-time high in You Only Live Twice, the vibe of Goldfinger looks to be fully retained in the Daniel Craig era Bond experience that is 007 Legends.

Based on this debut trailer showing the Goldfinger mission, all the things people associate with the film have been retained, even if it results in a slightly silly feeling.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Bond fan and I enjoy Goldfinger as a movie, but it seems odd that we’re seeing Daniel Craig’s Bond throwing down with a stoic Japanese henchman and being restrained as a laser beam threatens to do some precision cutting.

Visually the Goldfinger stage looks good, but it seems like it’s suffering from what worried me when I saw the game back at E3 - all the missions are borrowing the same formula despite having different settings.  The Goldfinger stage will of course have it’s own flavor through a few things, but the brief snippet of the Oddjob battle in this new trailer looks nearly identical to what I saw of the Jaws battle in the Moonraker stage, which to be honest was rather flat and short in it’s execution.

I’m still excited for 007 Legends since any Bond game is better than nothing, but one can hope that the overall quality and variety of the game doesn’t seem plagued by the short development cycle the project has received.

007 Legends will be available on the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 16.
