Capcom may not be doing gamers and Lost Planet fans any favors by not bringing EX Troopers, the Lost Planet spin-off, to the Western markets. It may suck that we won’t be able to control a Vital Suit whilst listening to JPOP, but we still have the opportunity to experience a new type of Lost Planet thanks to the upcoming third entry in the series.
Lost Planet 3 still has a lot of existing fans a bit indecisive as to how they feel about the game since Capcom has effectively rebooted the series. Now under the helm of Spark Unlimited, the third Lost Planet game isn’t yet another retread featuring mechs and space pirates as it’s instead taking on a more guided action route with traits of Dead Space thrown in here and there.
A decent amount of Lost Planet 3 has already been shown as the game was playable at E3, my impressions were favorable, but to celebrate Capon’s arrival at the New York Comic Con a new video has been released. Showcasing new Akrid types that honestly looks a bit creepy, the walkthrough video shows the cover based action that Spark Unlimited has devised which is on a smaller scale yet is still striving to be intense throughout.
The presence of QTEs via the “Struggle Mode” within the game may be yet another sign of ho-hum game design, but other than that Lost Planet 3 looks like a decent action romp. Visually I’m impressed about the game and it’s nice to see that there’s an actual story in place that doesn’t seem like it’s from a somewhat lame anime series.
Lost Planet 3 likely won’t become a mega-hit once it’s released early next year, but it does look like it has what it takes to be an enjoyable action game that maybe brings some honor back to Spark Unlimited as a developer.
