PlayStation All-Stars Open Beta Finally Starts

The time is finally upon us as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is ready for public consumption. Ok, we may have to wait an additional month to play the final game, but PlayStation gamers are in for a treat this week as the public beta for the game is finally being commenced.

After being available to a select few via a closed beta, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be going public starting tomorrow for both the PS3 and the PS Vita.  Most gamers won’t be getting shafted more or less as the beta will begin both in North America (Oct. 16) and Europe (Oct. 17) - at least for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

For once those who plunk down $50 for Sony’s special PSN service will get a rare treat as the PS All-Stars beta will be exclusive to them for one week.  Starting on October 23rd and 24th the beta will be open for all to enjoy so there’s no need for any bitter tears just yet.

On the flipside of the whole PS Plus gets its early element, the PS Vita beta will be available this week to everyone.  With PS Plus not launching on the Vita until early next month, Sony is doing gamers a solid by allowing all Vita owners to download the beta and enjoy what it has to offer such as cross-play with the PS3 version.

The only slightly disappointing news is that the beta won’t offer any new content compared to what was offered in the closed beta.  Two stages will be offered (Metropolis and Hades) along with six characters (Radec, Fat Princess, Sweet Tooth, Kratos, Sly Cooper, and PaRappa the Rapper). So those out there looking to learn the fine differences between Good Cole and the still baffling inclusion of Evil Cole will have to wait until next month.

The lack of “new” content in the beta may be disappointing, but considering most gamers haven’t had a chance to play the game at all I’m sure most are just happy to get their hands on the game.  Personally I’m rather excited to get my hands on the game once more and to continue my run dominating fools as Sweet Tooth in the absence of Nathan Drake, who based on what I played at E3 could be an absolute beast.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be released on the PS3 and PS Vita on November 20th.
