On the PC side of gaming MMO’s are a huge draw. With titles like the famous WarCraft, City of Heroes and the upcoming Star Trek Online the PC is never short of MMO games set in different genres and settings. But when it comes to mashing up the MMO and FPS genres together the results usually have been dire. Sony’s PlanetSide was probably the best attempt at putting the two widely popular genres together but even that eventually faltered due to a number of reasons.
Now it looks like Crytek (Far Cry, Crysis) has plans for an FPS MMO based on a resume posted on Linkedin. The resume sadly doesn’t offer any juicy details like other Linkedin profiles have in the past but it does give us a rough time frame as to how long the game has been in development as the level designer lists his time on the project from November 2008 to July 2009.
I’m not a huge PC gamer by any means but I do have to say the ideal of Crytek developing some sort of FPS MMO, either set in the Crysis universe or an new IP, has my interest piqued. Obviously Crytek may not be able to render the beautiful visuals that we see in Crysis for an MMO game but I’m sure they’ll offer something better than what we’re used to seeing.
