It looks like Dead Space 2 won’t be the only Necromorph action we get later this year/early next based on a recent survey Kotaku uncovered. Not only will gamers be getting a new entry in the Dead Space franchise but they could be getting a HD port of the amazing Dead Space Extraction.
You wouldn’t have expected the Dead Space franchise to expand outside of its sci-fi horror/dismemberment roots with a strategy game but that looks to be the case with Planet Cracker. The survey describes the game as a resource management game set aboard a mining ship in which players will have to try to earn the highest profit all while they defend their ship from space pirates. Planet Cracker definitely doesn’t sound like the thing you would expect from Dead Space but it could be a nice little side-game that expands the universe of the game.
Most out there may not be hyped to play Planet Cracker but some may be tempted to as the survey mentions how the game may yield rewards for those who own Dead Space 2. Additional details weren’t given but I’m sure players will be able to unlock some additional weapons or more ammo for Isaac to use in DS2 if they decide to give Planet Cracker a chance.
Also in the cards is a possible HD port of the Wii exclusive Dead Space Extraction set for release on PSN/XBLA. Once again the game would be an on-rails experience that would now be backed by HD visuals and perhaps motion control thanks to Arc and Natal. The best thing about the possibility of playing DSE on the PS3 and 360 is that the EA survey listed the game for only $15, a price that is an absolute steal.
Of course there’s a possibility that both of these games could be given a painful Necromorph death but chances are that won’t happen. With Dead Space being the massive hit that it was EA is probably going to capitalize on the franchise as much as they can before they eventually release a Dead Space co-op action game where Isaac is saying one-liners.
