EA's NBA Jam revival could be coming to the PS3 and 360

Earlier this year EA Sports made an announcement that surprised many for multiple reasons: the classic Midway arcade game NBA Jam was being revived.  While this news initially received the adulation of many since it’s been years since we’ve had a good arcade basketball game the downside was that NBA Jam 2010 was going to be for the Wii only.  As you can no doubt imagine the choice of platform made a good chunk of people so angry that they probably light on fire just like in the game.

But thanks to a LinkedIn profile that the Superannuation blog dug up there’s a chance that NBA Jam could be coming to the HD systems. Amongst the previous game she has worked on EA Software Engineer Andrea Schiel lists 2010 NBA (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3) as her most recent project.  While that’s far from the official confirmation most of us would’ve liked I guess it’s better to know that EA at least has a HD NBA Jam in the works, that is of course barring that the project was canceled or is canned in the foreseeable future.

With NBA Jam creator Mark Turmell heading up the project at EA Tiburon it would be extremely nice if all the arcade sports enthusiasts out there finally got another good arcade basketball game.  We may not know the direction the new NBA Jam is taking, though to be honest the pictures for the Wii version don’t look too hot, but I almost can’t contain my excitement at the possibility of doing a 25ft slam dunk while I’m on fire. Please make it happen EA. All you need to do is take the NBA Street formula, scale the tricks back a bit and add a whole new level of crazy with the fire effects.
