Find Out Who's Playing Princess Kitana in Mortal Kombat: Rebirth

In less than a month our minds will probably be blown to absolute smithereens as Mortal Kombat: Rebirth is set to be released.  An exact release date for the live-action web series hasn’t been announced, it’s now supposed to drop before the new MK game is out, so for all we know the goodness could come sooner than expected. But no matter how long the wait will be we still don’t know too much about the project.  Ever since the project began production early last month we’ve gotten subtle hints as to the nature of the plot along with a few confirmed casting details like Shane Warren Jones playing Cyrax and Darren Shahlavi as Kano.

It’s nice that the team behind MK: Rebirth are keeping some things secretive so we can all be surprised upon watching it, but at the same time it’s hard being a MK fan to small morsels of info which only leave us wanting more. But for the past few weeks MK: Rebirth Director Kevin Tancharoen has been rather forthcoming about a few aspects of the project having released images of Scorpion and Baraka.  Kevin has been rather vague when it comes to casting details only confirming that actress Tracey Spiridakos wouldn’t be playing Princess Kitana, which some assumed since her character’s name was Blue.  For a while it wasn’t even clear if Princess Kitana would be in MK: Rebirth, but now we have confirmation straight from Kevin as he has revealed that actress Sam Tjhia is playing everyone’s favorite Edenian princess.

Sam Tjhia

Like some of the other actors cast in MK: Rebirth, Sam’s core experience is that of a stunt performer as she’s worked in projects ranging from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World to the upcoming Zack Synder film Sucker Punch.  While she may not be vetted as an actress I think we have a possibly great Princess Kitana on our hands seeing as how she knows her way around stunt/fight choreography and without sounding like a complete creep, she’s rather attractive as well which helps given how Kitana is supposed to be a beautiful but deadly princess.

Just like many of the characters in MK: Rebirth, we haven’t seen what Sam looks like dressed up as Kitana but Kevin Tancharoen did post a pic of what looks to be Mileena kicking the crap out of Kitana.  Sadly the image isn’t of the best of quality but at least it shows that like Baraka, Kitana isn’t getting a major design or character reboot as some of the MK characters received in the initial pitch video from last year.

Having spoken to some of the actors set to appear in Mortal Kombat: Rebirth (more on that at a later date) I was really surprised at how excited everyone is for this project. Most of the time being in a video game project isn’t a big thing but I continue to hear nothing but good things about the experiences people had and what sort of style and scope the series will offer. So yeah, I think once we all get a peep of footage from Mortal Kombat: Rebirth I think we could have the definitive MK film project on our hands.
