Galaga Legions DX Is Announced And Teased In This New Video

Galaga is a pretty simple game, you move left or right as you try to dodge enemy fire all whilst trying to take out never ending swarms of enemy ships.  For over twenty-five years Galaga has had that same gameplay mechanic but a few years ago Namco revitalized the series with Galaga Legions for XBLA.  Keeping the same core Galaga formula, Galaga Legions stood out mostly because the game was now akin to a modern day shmup, complete with advanced attacks, new enemy types and some dazzling 3D visuals.

Now Namco Bandai is giving us something we want: a Galaga Legions sequel.  Set to appear sometime this year on both XBLA and the PSN, Galaga Legions DX will have the same formula found in the 2008 entry along with having a few new tricks up its sleeve.  Right now the extent of the new additions in Galaga Legions DX are unknown as Namco Bandai have merely issues a teaser trailer, which only has a whole fifteen seconds of gameplay footage from the game.

Galaga Legions DX may be following in the footsteps of its predecessor by being a spray shooter instead of one that requires some precision, but I don’t have a problem with that if it means the game will be fun.  I’m always up for some good shmup action so if Galaga Legions DX can provide that and isn’t price too high then I‘ll probably give the game a shot when it launches later this year.
