The Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Is Finally Announced!

I was starting to think that we may have a project cancellation on our hands, but after hearing countless rumors and seeing retail listing pop up for the last six months, WB Games have finally announced the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection.  Slated to appear on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live later this Summer, the MK Arcade Kollection will see the first three MK games re-released with new features for gamers to experience.

Reportedly an arcade perfect port of the first three MK games (MK3 has been excluded in favor of UMK3), the MK Arcade Kollection doesn’t seem to include new models or anything of that nature as was rumored late last year.  Exact details on the quality of the ports or which version of MK1 is being used weren’t disclosed, but with NetherRealm Studios overseeing the project, which is developed by Other Ocean, I think we can expect a quality if not arcade authentic experience.

The MK Arcade Kollection won’t feature any major new elements (there sadly won’t be any weird shoehorning of 3D in a strictly 2D fighting game) but the game will support online play along with having leaderboards and Trophy support.  It is slightly disappointing that the HD Arcade Kollection rumors didn’t pan out, but having the first three MK games for only $10/800 Microsoft Points is a good deal for the MK die-hard fans out there that can never get enough of the franchise.
