Namco Bandai announces a new Tekken game

I don’t know what spurred this, but now is an absolutely blissful time to be a fan of fighting games.  With stuff like Super Street Fighter IV, Mortal Kombat 9, and the double whammy of Street Fighter vs. Tekken and Tekken vs. Street Fighter on the horizon I don’t know what else fighting gamers could want.  Oh I know, how about a Tekken Tag Tournament sequel? Well Namco Bandai is happy enough to oblige are well underway on the project as per their announcement at TGS.

Out of nowhere and on the third day of TGS 2010, Namco Bandai has announced Tekken Tag Tournament 2.  Now this wasn’t just a simple announcement along the lines of “hey, we’re doing this game and it’ll be out in three years.”  While Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is still in the early stages of development, it’s far along enough for a nice teaser trailer complete with gameplay to be released. Even though Namco hasn’t released a Tekken Tag game in over a decade, it doesn’t seem like the Tekken team has lost any steps when it comes to making an enjoyable tag fighting experience.

And for anyone thinking that Tekken vs. Street Fighter will impact the release of Tekken Tag 2 need not worry as the next installment of Tekken’s tag fighting series will hit the shores of Japan next summer.  A North American/European release date hasn’t been announced but I expect a Fall/Winter 2011 release isn’t too far off from becoming reality. That's unless Namco takes their sweet time with the console version of the game similar to Tekken 6.

As a huge Tekken fan I’m happy to see another Tekken Tag game pop up since playing tag matches online will be beyond epic.
