New developer video gives insight on Ace Combat Assault Horizon

Usually an announcement of a new Ace Combat game would garner a nice amount of hype from the dedicated fan base of the franchise.  But when the debut trailer for Ace Combat Assault Horizon was released, the hype was larger than usual since the series is undergoing a rebirth of sorts.

While still focusing on aerial battles involving fast jet fighters, the newest Ace Combat game is also throwing helicopter combat in the mix along with gun turret sections, quick time events and a presentation that’s taking a note from the array of modern combat games on the market.

To get the ball rolling on the impending Ace Combat Assault Horizon appearance at TGS this week, a new developer video has been released. Featuring Assault Horizon Producer/Director Kazutoki Kono, the video doesn’t feature any new footage but Kazutoki does discuss what Assault Horizon is all about and what the dev team is aiming for with this installment of the franchise.

Assault Horizon may not be in tune with the previous Ace Combat games, but I’m really digging what I’ve seen so far. The Close Range Combat has some amazing potential and the prospect of “mechanical gore” and “Steel Carnage” has the action gamer inside me excited as hell.

Ace Combat Assault Horizon is set for release next year on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
