Last week Q Games slowly began teasing the upcoming entry in the PixelJunk series by placing small photos of it on their Facebook fan page. Well today Q has lifted the veil on the game and not only do we have the first gameplay details and a trailer but fans have the chance to help name the game as well.
Each entry in the PixelJunk game has revolved around a different genre (racing, strategy, platforming) and now the latest genre that Q is tackling seems to be a mix of a twin-stick shooter and a strategy game. PixelJunk 1-4 has the player traversing various caves and caverns as they interact with magma, water and more materials all while trying to avoid being attacked from various enemies.
The game seems to have more of an action focus to it since players face off against a bevy of enemies which can either be taken out using the standard fire weapon or using the environment. However the game isn't just another Blast Factor or Geometry Wars since there will be bit of strategy involved as well since it'll be needed to take cover in certain scenarios.
In an old interview Dylan Cuthbert, head of Q Games, said that the next PixelJunk game would use more of the PS3's computing power and PixelJunk 1-4 certainly does that. All the liquids in the game are animated to reflect how they would in reality while still having a stylish look that should never get old to players.
Currently the game is simply known as PixelJunk 1-4, since it's the fourth entry in the PJ series, but Q is holding a contest for users to submit their name ideas where the winner will not only win a snazzy orginal T-shirt but will be included in the credits of the game as well. The winner of the contest will be announced in May.
