Perhaps one of the most underwhelming announcements made at the Spike Video Game Awards last year was the reveal of Prototype 2. After a series of cryptic teases were made, which led many to think that a new Resident Evil game was going to be revealed, we were treated to a somewhat ho-hum reveal for Prototype 2. Maybe I’m just being a hater, but I didn’t enjoy the first Prototype, and I wasn’t the only one who felt that as the game was a bit shoddy in some respects.
I assume Prototype must’ve done rather well at retail as Activision obviously gave the go ahead for the sequel which is why we have this new teaser clip today. One of the reasons people enjoyed the first Prototype was because it allowed them to do crazy crap and I guess if you like that you’ll dig the sequel. Not much has been revealed of Prototype 2, except that you’re playing as a soldier who thinks Alex Mercer (the hoody wearing hero from the first game) is a bad guy. So our friendly but misguided soldier goes on a quest for revenge and somehow enables himself with the same powers and abilities as Alex – thus stuff like kicking a helicopter in the air is possible.
In my time with the first Prototype game, I did have fun wreaking havoc but that quickly led to boredom as everything felt a bit too scripted and instead of feeling like I was a powerful badass, it felt like I was controlling an action figure that was punching/kicking other action figures. Everything was weightless and quickly fell into a pattern of repetition that was at times a dis-service to the concept of the game. Perhaps developer Radical Entertainment will change things up a bit, but to be honest I’m kind of expecting more of the same from Prototype 2; a game that’s fun to play on a lazy afternoon for one day and then mail back to Gamefly on Monday.
For gamers who aren’t as jaded as me, the full low down on Prototype 2 is set to be revealed in the next issue of EGM, who since their return from the dead has been on a roll lately when it comes to nailing world exclusives.

I actually really enjoyed the first game and am looking forward to this one. I thought the diversity of the combo moves is what made me discover some more creative ways to destroy road block bases with one hit dives. Which is awesome to do by the way.
See base while flying. Dive into base. Base destroyed!
