PSN Down time causes 8001050F error and prevents games from loading.

If you’re trying to get onto PlayStation Network as of right now, sorry, it’s down. Many users of PSN have confirmed that the network is currently unavailable, with them receiving a 8001050F error message. That’s not all, many more issues have appeared, leaving PlayStation Network users are less than thrilled, voicing their frustration on forums around the net. Me being one of them.

Some may have noticed the date on their PSN clock has also apparently changed as well, to December 31st. The time has also been mixed up as well. This is probably due to the fact that there is no network access whatsoever. Users have also reported that games are not working, because trophy access is unresponsive. If you try to play a PS3 or PSN title, the game will give you this message:

[quote]Registration of the trophy information could not be completed. The game will quit. (8001050F)[/quote]

Purchased PSN titles are not working as well, and some are reporting of copyright issues. Demos however, are working fine.

We’ll bring you more on this network error as soon as more news hits. But let me tell you, I'm pissed. I realize that clearly Sony wouldn't PLAN for this to happen and will fix it as soon as possible. But that is a ridiculous bug and VERY poor programing logic. Forcing users to check in to the PSN to even launch a game is absurd.

You can expect a full recap and rant from me on QuarterSave next week.

[UPDATE 1]

Sony has officially responded to the problems users are experiencing with PlayStation Network.

“We’re aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we’re looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.”

[UPDATE #2]

It seems as though owners of 120GB/250GB “slim” PS3 model are able to connect to the PlayStation Network. The problem appears to be isolated to the original “fat” PS3 models.

[UPDATE #3]

After calling Sony's technical support and speaking to one of their representatives, this post claims they were told the issue would be fixed by morning and that there is no need to fear about game's trophies or save data.

What time the fix will go up exactly is yet to be determined.

Couldn't agree with you more. And no, that isn't me in Sony fanboy mode. Yeah what happened sucks but based on what I'm reading now everything should be sorted out tomorrow. Is Sony completely excusable in this scenario? No not really but its not like everyone's PS3's literally blew up at the same time in a mass console suicide.

They'll def fix it, but when you just got 4 hours for the first time in almost 3 months to game and your new copy of Heavy Rain won't boot up cause the PSN is down...

Very silly glitch. Especially since ONLY Fat consoles are effected...It's still down and they "Hope to have a fix in the next 24 hours."

uh-oh somebody is going to sue Sony for PSN being down. It stole precious minutes away from me playing my games and it made very depressed because when I am not playing games then I am reminded how much my life sucks. 8001050F Error = me getting raped by reality

Yeah, yeah. You people complain about this, which can be fixed, when you haven't faced the REAL bullshit of them all. You know what I'm talking about.

well apparently its the internal clock thinking that its leap year. They say the problem could fix itself when the clock turns over to March 2nd on GMT which is less than 1 hour from now. If this doesn't fix the problem then expect worldwide rioting and looting.

I really hope their PLAN A solution isn't "Let's see if it fixes itself automatically tomorrow" LOL. My god. So silly. Did Y2K teach us nothing about date programing standards? Come on Sony...

Those people, all of them, deserve to get their PS3 busted for complaining for something so small.

I deserve my console to break because Sony fucked the pooch? Don't be a fan boy, the issue is not small. If this was the XBLA you'd be ragging on 360 for classic hardware failures. No the PSN issue is not as big of a deal as the red ring of death, no one said it was. But that doesn't make it not an issue when 33 million users can't play a game online or offline because the tech giant Sony can't program a calendar to handle a leap year. I'm a PS3 owner because I don't trust 360 hardware. Yet here is my PS3, which I greatly prefer, failing. Hard.

This PSN shit ruined my only night to play games that I've had in months, and over such a silly programing bug too. No one actually thought Sony wouldn't fix it, or that their system "broke." The issue is it shouldn't have happened at all, and should have been fixed within an hour or two. Not a day and a half.

If your system clock shuts down the ENTIRE PSN, that's pretty fucking ridiculous from a programming stand point. Like really? After Y2K a company like Sony couldn't handle a fucking leap year in their system clock? Very poor response time for such a simple issue. To top it off the bug also fucked up all my trophies from one hour before it went down. I can't imagine how pissed someone would be that just had their platinum rejected because the clock couldn't handle a leap year.

I'm dissapointed at Sony. But I'm not getting a 360 either. This problem plus all the YLoD's around the world is something that is really putting them in a bad image. What happened to me is unforgivable. I'm never, ever, going to buy a launch console again.

You said it, Sony's a tech giant. Yet they still make mistakes like if they were amateurs.
