Ubisoft announces Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (aka the movie tie-in game)

The upcoming Prince of Persia film starring the dreamy Jake Gyllenhaal wouldn’t be complete without some sort of movie tie-in game and it looks like we’re getting one straight aside from the rumored and extremely silly Lego Prince of Persia game.

Today Ubisoft announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands which is scheduled to release in May to coincide with the film.  We’ll get our first look at the new PoP game at the Spike VGA on December 12th but Ubisoft did share a few details about the game.  The one thing that will either please or piss of PoP fans is that the game is returning to the Sands of Time storyline and is not a continuation of the Prince of Persia reboot that was released last year. Other than that Ubisoft didn’t mention anything else other than the game will have “new gameplay innovations that gamers have come to expect from the Prince of Persia brand.” So it’s the usual vague PR announcement that we’ve come to expect.

While some would expect Ubisoft to produce a quality movie tie-in game especially since it’s based on a property they own that may not be the case. The LinkedIn profile of a modeler who worked on the game shows that the project began development in August 09, which doesn’t exactly bode well for the game as it seems to be continuing the trend of short dev cycles for movie games.

Maybe Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is going to be an awesome game that takes us back to the classic charm of the first PoP game or it could be a waste of time and quick cash-in of the franchise. I guess we'll find out or at least get a good idea of what to expect when the trailer is released.

I can only imagine how horrible it will be when they take a bad movie and make it a bad movie tie in game. Jake Gyllenhaal = Fail as the Prince of Persia.

"Persian" is in the characters name. I don't understand how someone could pick him.
