The zombie types of Yakuza: Of the End are revealed + a new character

In case it somehow slipped your mind, the next Yakuza game (Yakuza 5) has zombies in it. After staying relatively straight laced with only a few doses of humor and stylized combat, the Yakuza team decided to go all out and inject lots and lots of fantasty elements into Yakuza: Of the End.  So what sorts of zombies will players come across as they roam the streets of Kamurocho?

Thanks to Famitsu and Andriasang, we now know about a few of the zombie types that will linger around Kamurocho and when provoked will try to eat and dismember our Yakuza heroes.  Starting off with the simple stuff, Famitsu revealed the three core zombie types that appear in the game.

Yakuza: Of the End is somewhat keeping things relatively normal as you have the standard Yakuza type zombie (not too strong, abundant on the streets), the Nakionna type (a crying female zombie whose cries draw nearby zombies) and my favorite class: the Homeless zombie.  The homeless zombie is described as being a zombie version of a homeless person, who according to the world of Yakuza are already deranged, violent and sometimes slow. Have the Yakuza dev team not seen golden voice Ted Williams yet?  C’mon folks, you’ve got to give the homeless people a break, even if they do mess up their 15 minutes of fame.

Famitsu also revealed Reiko Hasegawa, a new character to the Yakuza franchise who just so happens to be a zombie researcher.  Even with the streets of Kamurocho overrun by zombies, Reiko obviously isn’t that worried as she wears thigh high boots and a stylish dress along with her lab coat, which is there just to remind you that you’re talking to a scientist and isn’t a gravure idol. Reiko will be useful in the game as she’ll update you on zombie types along with giving the player special missions.  So yes, she has an actual purpose in the game besides being eye candy.

We haven’t been hit with that much info concerning Yakuza: Of the End since it was unveiled at TGS last year, but perhaps that’s because the game is only slated for a Japanese release so far. If Yakuza 4 does well at retail when it finally gets released in North America and Europe this March we could see the zombie action of Yakuza: Of the End hit our shores but until then we’ll just have to be patient.
